FREE STEEM

Hey guys, so for any of you who follow me you probably know I'm giving away all my Steem Dollars this week as part of a project to keep noobs and minnows like myself interested in the platform and to reward them for good content since it's so easy for good content to get lost in the shuffle.

Well believe it or not it's actually quite a lot of work scouting out Steemit and finding people to give free Steem to. I have kind of a busy day and some Steem Dollars so blow through so tell me an interesting or wierd fact and you will receive some Steem.

free.jpg

I have 2.35 to give away and will be giving it away in 0.05 blocks so first come first serve.

Kind of what inspired this post, I had posted something about Steemit and @interceptor kept leaving interesting shark facts, totally unrelated to my post lol, but interesting shark facts in my comments and I kept going back posting my own interesting shark facts, it's kind of a little inside joke. Here's the post if you're interested

Anyhow, share some interesting or wierd facts with us here and you will be rewarded with Steem.

thats the one game they had that i liked. i used to love excitebike but it wasn't the same. couldn't believe nes classic didn't have paperboy

Hell yeah...I remember both of those....

HAHAHAHA!!!! That was awesome!

I actually posted this on my Steemit account last week at https://steemit.com/cars/@auskiwi/citroen-c5-end-of-an-era

You get 2 little known facts about this car for the price of 1.
The first, mentioned in the post above, is that the innovative hydropneumatic suspension which debuted in the iconic 1955 Citroen DS, was discontinued in 2016 due to the beancounters not liking the cost of the system, and a lack of sales in recent years. End of an era.
The second little-known fact, is that cars with this type of suspension are banned in North America, for some unfathomable reason. There is even a plate under the hood of my Citroen C5 which states this. My theory, although I've never seen it verified anywhere else, is that the self-levelling aspect of the suspension enables hidden loads in the vehicle to be disguised when the vehicle is pulled over by law enforcement. They literally can't tell if you have a few hundred kgs of contraband hidden on the vehicle by looking at the sagging suspension, as with other vehicles. I got this information when I read somewhere that smugglers in Europe were using the old Citroen CX to run illegal bootlegged alcohol across the Pyrenees from Spain to France.
Ironically, that second fact may be the reason for the first fact. Perhaps the fact that Citroens are banned in the US made the vehicles uneconomic to produce in large numbers. After all, every other European car manufacturer from Mercedes to Volkswagen to Range Rover exports large numbers of cars to the US and Canada. It would have been natural for one of Europe's most popular luxury cars to be exported there too, but for that little legal quirk introduced no doubt by the alphabet soup agencies.

I love these kind of posts!

Ok, here's my fact that freaked me out a bit. I read that the Eiffel tower in Paris leans towards one side, away from the sun. The steel that faces the sun gets warmer which makes it expand and pushes the tower to lean away. On a hot day this can be upto 7 inches.
So be careful next time you go up on a summers day! ;)

never knew that. that's interesting and makes this all the more crazy

Wow thats high!

🎶 I was gonna... clean my room.. 🎶 but then I got high!! 🎶 You sir, @rulesforrebels definitely are a badass! Keep On Steemin On!

Oh god!! the fear of height intensifies someone hold me pls.. :/

I lived near that tower for 2 years and never knew that!

Thanks for the pay out! :)

huh, interesting!

Well, I'm a dietitian and my fun fact is that high fiber foods (like whole grain products, fruits and vegetables) are good for your GI tract. However something people don't know is that is sticks to cholesterol in the foods we eat and helps to remove them versus allowing them to recirculate in the blood. Our bodies naturally make cholesterol and do not require much from the diet. Unfortunately sometimes predisposed hereditary issues can also cause elevated cholesterol levels! :)

That is interesting. You've been Steemed ;)

why thank you kind sir!

Have a scary thought for your sleep. For every human on Earth there are 1.6 million ants. And they're hungry.

Wow you are a nice person

Gimme a fact so I can give you some Steem

People of Ireland actually pee on the blarney stone in Ireland, despite it being on private land. #DoNotKissTheBlarneyStone

I sometimes pee in McDonalds drivethroughs on my way home from the bars, peeing on a blarney stone seems more fun. Thanks for the fact, you've been Steemed

Thank you brother! :)

DecalogueStone.jpg
Los Lunas Decalogue Stone found in the deserts of New Mexico. It's written in Paleo-Hebrew and translates (nearly verbatim) to The Ten Commandments.
(things that make you go, Hmmmmm?)

That's interesting. How did it get there?

That's what I'd like to know, too. Pre-Colombian, apparently.

Every piece of silk on corn on the cob feeds one kernel of corn.

so that's why there's so many strings in my corn. Very interesting. You've been steemed

corn silk is also medicinal

Corn silk tea heals the entire urinary system, kidney/bladder area of the body (which also affects the brains) Many older members of society get frequent urinary infections that standard medical medicine make worse by throwing antibiotics at to treat (never heals) so the cycle just goes and goes.

Fact for the day...On 06-Jul-1785, there was a unanimous vote by US congress to adopt decimal coinage and names the currency "Dollar"

That's interesting, I was just reading an article today about getting rid of the penny. Canada did it a few years back

Apple is so successful, that in the first quarter of 2014, it made more money than Amazon, Google, and Facebook combined.

Speaking of giveaways! Apple's cash on hand, around $155 Billion, could give everyone in the US, $490.00! 😎

If Apple was a country, it would be the world's 27th largest country, between Venezuela and Belgium. 👏

Even with an estimated net worth of $7 billion, for the last 15 with the company, CEO Steve Jobs was only paid $1.00 so he could qualify for the company's health benefits. 😮

oh nice

I didn't know that. While I hold Apple stock I'm not a big fan of their products. You've been steemed

Elon Musk was born in South Africa in 1971.

He didn't become an American citizen until 2002, at age 31.

The Tesla Model S was awarded a 5.4 out of 5 safety taking from the National Highway Safety Administration, the highest rating ever given to an automobile. 😊

It's common for underwater oil field divers to sleep in the 'bell' for days at a time while working. It's more efficient than sending them topside, pressure chamber, then sending them back down.

that's fascinating and probably not very comfortable lol. you've been steemed

You are correct. It's not. Pooping is especially interesting.

Banging your head against the wall burns 150 calories. True fact, I've done it.

a while back there was an internet rumor that farting burned 67 calories. its not true

You can burn more calories thinking than having sex. True fact. True and sad. So don't fuck around, better yet, think about that fucking.

haha

I know;-)
And thanks for the steem! Good post.

Stawberries are not actually a type of "berry" (blackberries and rasberries alike fall into this category). They are instead classified botanically as "aggregate fruits."

So what are some actual examples of berries under the botanical definition?

Pomegranates, Kiwis, Bananas

very interesting. so what is a star fruit? you've been steemed

Type of berry

Walt Disney holds the record for most individual Oscar award wins. (22)

thanks very interesting. youve been steemed

Awesome! Thank you!

Rulesforrebels held me hostage for 3 days until I agreed to join Steemit! LOL

When it comes to investing, keeping fees low is one of the few things that investors can control, and over time can make huge impacts in how much you have saved. Keep it simple and invest in low cost index funds and avoid commission-based advisors. If, after doing your own research still need help, putting up some money to buy a few hours of a fee-only financial advisor's time to answer all of your questions and help you set up your porfolio and IPS is the way to go. Make sure to go with an advisor that had a fiduciary duty to put your interests first (legislation in the US is out now that makes this standard for retirment accounts, but you can still get taken advantage of when it comes to non-retirement accounts) so that you are funding your retirement and not the advisors! If you still just want to go with a commission-based advisor for some reason (maybe you just want constant advice and not have to pay by the hour), avoid insurance companies like the plague (heh, high fees!), and look into low cost options like Vanguard Advisory Services.

Or just chuck it all into a robo-advisor (Betterment, Wealthfront, Wise Banyan, Schwab Intelligent portfolio, ect) or a target retirement fund at Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab ect. and be done with it ;-).

The high cost of fees

How a 1% Fee Could Cost Millennials $590,000 in Retirement Savings @ NerdWallet:

hey totally agree with you there. i was using betterment and wealthfront but really all they are doing is charging you an additional fee to buy vanguard funds on your behalf. i also feel like they go too high on international stuff so after seeing the market skyrocket and my gains not really match that i pulled all my money out of wealthfront and betterment and moved over to vanguard.

Yep, if/once you meet the minimum requirements to purchase the Vanguard funds, it's a good idea to move over. I like Betterment (though not so much their fees that they seem to raise every year now! ugh) for their simple UI and the ability to invest as little as $10 at a time. It is a good way for a new investor to get started with very little money (they let you buy partial ETF shares which is not possible directly from Vanguard) and yet be well diversified. IIRC Wise Banyan is a competitor and they have 0 fees until you deposit over $10,000 as a hook to get people to sign up with them, and they can be a good way to get started as well that's even cheaper than Betterment (you still pay the fund ERs, just not a management fee to Wise Banyan). Once you have $9,000 for mutual funds (or less if you do ETFs or for mututal funds just do target date retirement fund or just start with one fund like total stock and save up for the miniums to puchase total bond and international), you can go to Vanguard and buy into a 3 fund portfolio, and after that the minimum investment can be as little as $1.

I know not everyone is a fan of mutual fund and I know not everyone has the money to buy in initially but you can tricle money in daily or weekly to vanguard mutual funds. At first I was goign to do admiral shares or a couple funds but instead went with the aggressive life strategy fund as opposed to the target date funds as I dont want to get less aggressive over time

In New Zealand you can never be more than 79 miles away from the ocean

i love the water sounds like my kinda place. are there beaches all over or more just coastline that may be rocky?

Thats a lot of beaches near where I live but some parts would be rocky coast line. The west coast of the North Island is all sandy beaches for the most part and the East coast is fairly rocky.

You are now consciously blinking and breathing. You're welcome.

A baseball bat and a baseball, together, cost $1.10. The baseball bat costs $1 more than the baseball. How much does the baseball cost?
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

10 cents? Wrong. The baseball costs $0.05 and the bat costs $1.05. If the baseball was 10 cents, then the bat would have to be $1 but that only costs 90 cents more than the baseball; not $1 more.

Even after you explained that I still can't wrap my head around it...it's been a long day lol

Hahaha I hope my explanation can make it clearer:

If the ball costs $0.05, that must mean that the bat costs $1.05 (since the bat must cost $1 more than the ball)
Grand Total = $0.05 + $1.05 = $1.10

Most people would say the ball costs $0.10
But if that was the case, the bat must cost $1.10 (since it must cost $1 more than the ball)
Grand Total = $0.10 + $1.10 = $1.20 -> Incorrect

Hope that helps! Whether you understand it or not, you are still awesome, my friend.
