To be honest, I am not here that long but I think that the same measurements work here as they do in the real world.
HARD WORK will always pay off!
If you consistently post good quality work, engage with people who take the time to reply to your post and do this over a period of time you will reap the rewards. No one said that life was going to be easy and no one said that being successful in Steemit was going to be easy either.
You don't start a job and ask to be promoted on your first day, Steemit is no different.
Find your feet, decide on what you want to write about and just start doing it. When someone answers a post, reply to them but do the extra work and check out their work and see if they are someone that you have something in common with, there is no point in following someone for the sake of it, it is a waste of your time and theirs.
Once you are up and running, just remember that you have to grind it out.
As I said there are many posts asking the same questions and trying in their own way to answer it, in my opinion this post by @bearbear613 probably explains what you need to do to be successful on Steemit and it is just spot on in describing realistically what to expect from the platform.

And it is always worth bearing in mind that we pretty much all started out the same where it was dashed tough to make a mark. However it does pay off if you are determined!
