Announcing "Steemit Explained" — A New Animated Series

in steemit •  7 years ago

Steemit is a disruptive and revolutionary social media platform. As such, the way it works is so different from anything we've ever seen before. That can make it a confusing place for its users.

Maybe you're new here. Maybe you've been here for a while but still have questions. Maybe you just like fun animated content.

If any of those statements are accurate, my new series is for you!

I'm here to officially announce my animated informational series, Steemit Explained.

A Breakdown of Steemit Explained

I've mapped out ideas and begun the writing process for the first four episodes in the series. Here are the topics:

  1. What is the Blockchain?
  2. Social Media on the Blockchain
  3. Voting Power
  4. Steem Power Delegation

Voting power you say? Hmm, that seems oftly familiar. Didn't you already make an animated video about voting power? You're correct, astute reader! I did. It looked like this:

When I made the decision to turn this concept into a series, I thought it would be a very good idea to start at the very beginning and explain the basics. Because of that, my first episode is becoming episode 3.

That's right, like George Lucas before me, I'm retroactively making my first movie a later installment in the series.

If Lucas can do it, so can I!

Release

I'm not going to commit myself to a set schedule. That will only lead to broken promises. However, I can say that I will work hard to release these videos on a semi-regular basis. Maybe one every few weeks.

I hope you'll follow me to keep up with this series.

~Seth

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been trying to explain this and Steemit to my friends but having this video and the rest of your series will help me so much!! One of the most exciting things thats happened to me on steemit today!

Yes great stuff!

More clarity is always a great thing, and nice to get noobheads like myself up to steem speed !!

Excellent explainer video! I will be sharing this on my social profiles!

Great animation!

This is awesome! It's also my first resteem :)

I'm honoured :)

Fun and intelligent way to educate the steemit community, I really like this brother initiative, hopefully this work can be translated so that the Spanish-speaking community also has the opportunity to learn in this way all the important details so that they can get a reasonable growth in this great multicultural platform as steemit is.

Thank you for the explanations. Very intelligent and helpful!

If I knew another language, I would gladly make a dub for non-English members of the community. If there's anybody interested in doing a Spanish (or any other language) dub, they can feel free to record it and send it to me so that I can edit it into the movie! Of course, they would have to keep the timing the same.

That's a serious offer by the way. If you, or anyone you know is interested in making a dub, we can collaborate on it (and share the profits!)

If brother seems very interesting and good that you are receptive to the proposal I will investigate in my Spanish-speaking community who can translate faithfully the animation we would all win to be able to achieve it.

That would be fantastic. I know there's a prominent Spanish-speaking community here on Steemit. It would be great if my content could reach them too.

Friend and talk to a brother of the Hispanic community that I think you can translate your animation but with subtitles so you do not have to modify the audio, I pass the video for you to analyze it, I'll put you in touch soon and we will win all

I can send you a full English transcript if it would help.

Good afternoon if you send me the text so that the friend starts translating it, to this email address: [email protected]

Sorry, I was busy yesterday. I'll send the text today. I'll actually begin by sending you the text for the new video I'm working on since that will actually be episode 1 in the series.

Is your friend on Steemit too?

I sent you an email.

Looking forward to it.
Is the info in the video about voting outdated ? It seemed to be pre HF19.

The video was made post HF19, all the rules are up to date.

Thank you @sethlinson.
Looking forward to the series.

This is fun, easy to understand and I will spread it around to anybody I invite to steem as its self explanatory can't wait for this series' other parts keep it up :)

Thank you! They need to post this on their main page. I had such little understanding of how things worked, I was almost convinced this was a scam. Your video helped a lot. Thank you!!

Excellent post

This could be a great thing for new users to learn how to use steemit. I hope this goes well for you

That's the idea :)

This is great @sethlinson! Who did the voiceover?

Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks! I did the voiceover, which is something that I'm generally uncomfortable with since I hate hearing my own voice. But I did speak in a way that isn't natural to me and edited the pitch. So it's barely my voice.

I plan to do more voice acting in my animations so I can get more used to it.

Cool. It sounds great! How long did it take to produce this?

Are you on steemit.chat or discord?

I'd love to chat with you in the future since I myself am trying to get into the animation game. It sure looks like you have a lot of experience in the field.

I'm on Steemit Chat, username: sethlinson. Message me any time!

This actually only took me 15 hours over 2 days to put together which is absolutely insane. I'm used to working fast (fast, relative to how slow animation work is) but I put this movie together ridiculously quickly. I'll find out after the next one whether the first time was just a fluke or if I can keep up such quick output.

I studied film in university from 2011-2015, with my last two and a half years solely focused on animation. So I've been animating for about four and a half years now.

Great work, Seth. I loved that video. Succinct and artistic. This should help newbies transition onto the platform in a smoother way. Thanks. Resteemed.

Thanks so much for the resteem!

Excellently done! Resteeming.

Thank you! And there's more on the way

Speaking of which, I should probably get off Steemit and get to work :P

This is great, I watched the first video and it is quite informative. The voice over is great. Looking forward to watching the whole series some day soon.

I'm off to work on the new episode right now. Hopefully I'll have it finished in a few days.

Following you and will be waiting to learn more about Steemit.

Loved it! Shared it!

Thank you so much

Your good at explaining things and some people don't even about voting power, so it's a good post. Btw, I like the moving neck on George Lucas. Lol!

good job .......
it will be helpful for me..
thanks bro

I really liked the way that the video was put together. Upvoted, resteemed and followed!

Nice video. Liked the Jetson's inspiration and am glad that Steemit now has a video explanation series to compliment the long documents. Resteeming you so that you may reach far and wide.

Very useful information @sethlinson! Until now I wasn't quite sure how the whole voting thing worked and what impact it had.
Thanks for sharing. Upvoting and resteeming

I'm very new to Steemit and the cryptocurrency world in general. This type of stuff is exactly what I need! As a visual learner and someone who's brain doesn't woork so good, I need entertaining cartoon to show me how the world works. Thank you for this.

I'm glad this is helpful for you! I hope you'll enjoy my upcoming installments just as much.

Very helpful for new users and seasoned users alike!

I'm a big fan of arts and animations..I'll be following closely.. Nice post

Brilliant @sethlinson, follow you now.

Great work

Okay! I get it. OMG! I get it! Yay! (Dancing as I type!) Upvoted and restreemed, btw!

Oh I am so grateful, thank you! I actually got trolled by a bot yesterday trying to figure out steemit 😂😂😂 it took me a while to realise what was going on! yes, im a bit slow... haha upvoted, resteemed and following! x

This is very well done and extremely helpful. I hope you do more of these. I'll definitely redirect newcomers to this! ;-)

I actually have a question: sometimes when I upvote a post, I can see the number of votes going up by 1, 2 or sometimes a bit more, but the actual value of the post remains the same. Can you explain why? Thanks :)

Thanks for explaining this!

Now I understand why this article has received $7.35 10 votes:
https://steemit.com/korean/@rainelemental/day-2-korean-the-most-beautiful-language-in-the-world

And this one got $9 with 8 votes:
https://steemit.com/team-building/@rainelemental/it-all-comes-down-to-the-people

Very impressive your work .., I am still a beginner steemian, still have a lot to learn, thank you your useful post, in this steemit I can learn a lot., I wait for your next posting

Great idea with explainer video! We are aiming to sell coin art in physical form. Something people can hang on the wall and have a good conversation starter with guests but video is good media for certain audience as well. Keep up good work, mainstream adoption takes tiny step at the time and that's one way to contribute!
Cheers!

So in a nut shell, only cast 10 votes a day for beginners, gain more steam for a bigger capacity of the votes you give then reach 500 steam for a more controlled vote to either vote 100% or less on a post. Okay got it, thanks! :) You should explain comments and posts next.

My next videos will actually begin with basic fundamentals like explaining the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. But those are good ideas for future videos! Thanks.

No Problem! :D I will follow you to stay tuned to that because since I'm recently new here I want to learn what else I can do more efficiently on Steemit! :)

I will use this to explain to my friends. I enjoy blogging here but sometimes it can be difficult to explain to others.

What an amazing job, the explanation is clear even with a short video.
Would you mind allowing subtitle translation on Youtube so we could help and share with non-natives ?
Following you for more such animations!
Steem on!

If somebody wants to do the translating, I'd be happy to put up subtitles.

I found this to be brilliant

for some reason these people remind me of the Jetsons. George Jetson at the top.

The reason they remind you of the Jetsons is that I pretty much stole the designs from the Jetsons. Oops.

Thanks for this! I look forward to the series. I am very new to this as well, and it helps!
Thanks!

That's great! I'm glad you found the video helpful. I hope you'll follow me for more.

Great work, really simple and easy to follow... Would love to see more of these :)

Thanks! If you follow me, you will see more ;)

Brilliant work! You have explained it in a simple and entertaining way. These videos would a great intro on the login/sign up page for all of the newbies, saving much grief and frustration.
Looking forward to the rest of your series. =)
Upvoted, follwing.

I would love it if the Steemit admins considered my work valuable enough to put it front and center like that!

It got my vote! =)

Thanks :)

This is a very informative post, done quite creatively! Nice work with the voice over and the effects.
Thanks mate

Thanks for the comment. I hope you'll follow me to see more of these videos in the near future.

The Lucas gif was pretty disturbing. Im happy you took the time to create this helpful information. Steem On brother!

Being a professional voice-over guy for many (make that MANY. lol) years... I really liked this. Nice work.

Thanks!

Great video on Steemit. Love the classic 1940's feel.

I'm glad you like the style. I wasn't sure that people would respond well to it.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

this style remindes me of Fallout 4. The first seconds i saw this tutorial i was catched, because i absolutely did not know what to expect.

I'm glad it caught your attention. Thanks for commenting!

Very helpful! I'm new so still trying to make sense of this platform. I'm looking forward to your next videos :)

chuck approves small.jpg

Great approach. Great video. Looking forward to the series. Easy way to learn.

Now i am smarter :D Thanks!

You are indeed! Follow me to keep up with my videos. By the end of this series, you'll be a bona fide genius!

this is a very nice way to educate someone.

Great Job Seth! It's also nice to see another Animator here. :)

I love connecting with other animators and filmmakers on Steemit! I'll follow your blog.

Fantastic work.

Interesting! Keep going!!!

This is quite interesting.

You perhaps tired of hearing this ... but dude you have serious talent!! That was a brilliant info-animation - resteemed! images.png

I never get tired of hearing that :)

Excellent video) Thank you)

Thanks for the people like this on steemit well done sir

@sethlinson LOL this definitely made my day. I'm glad you actually did it as opposed to posting that you were going to do it lol. Glad I found this post

Kindered spirits are something like that.

A very helpful explanation of how steemit voting works. Thanks!

This was awesome! Sharing this on old social media now! Looking forward to more great content from you Seth! :)

Thank you for sharing :)

Excellent post! It helped me a lot! Thank You for sharing!

Very cool animation. Resteeed

Very well explained. Would love to see more of these! :) Followed and upvoted!

That's awesome, well done. I am also working on a semi-animated show using Adobe Character Animation. I wrote a few posts about that. I hope I can record my first episode these days.

Cool! I'll check that out.

Great work Seth, I'm going to send this to a friend who just signed up!

That's exactly what I made it for :)

Good job mate! Upvoted & resteemed!

Thank you so much for your support!

Excellent job steem power new animated still waiting thanks!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

One advice from little me. :)
It would be good if you would do this. For example, if you make today some animation just post some preview and announce in what time tommorow or whatever day you wish you will post your animation. Maybe I am wrong but, in this way we, as your followers will be able to comment you and get some promotion out your post, and you'll have more chance to get in hot or trending page. :)
Just some friendly assumption. I hope I got you thinking.
Anyway, looking forward to watch new series. :)

Yea, for the first video I made a little preview post to get some buzz going and then released the actual video the next day.

I think it's a good strategy that A. helps spread the word, and B. gets me a little more money haha!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Just make sure to write exact time so we can wait and refresh home page :)

Oh boy... setting exact deadlines? Not my thing :P

haha I know it's hard but you can try to prepare everything and then announce post out :)

That's true. I don't need to give myself a deadline, just set a release date/time once it's ready.

Lol Man, you really enjoy making this!!! I guess it because making that voice for sure was a very fun work. Great animation sequence, story- telling and obviously, a nice way of teach how this Steem World works! All my clicks for you 4 U Man, Good work!

Thanks for sharing the info! I went off and read a bunch of articles before I got started and promptly forgot most of it after actually starting to use my steam account :) Sweet animation and I love the voice-over.

Thanks! I hope you'll stay tuned as I release more videos :)

This is an awesome post. I liked the video. It is a great explanation of how STEEMit works with the upvoting. Great Job

I will be Re-STEEMing this.

Thank you :)

Thank you for the up vote

Hi, very very nice post, i like it and i will resteem this!

Thank you :)

Why wasn't I following you already? This was fantastic @sethlinson!

I'm glad fate has finally brought you to my blog :)

Great video!!

100% upvoted, resteemed and followed! That was quality!

Thanks for the video mate. Really cool! Ive was trying to explain steem to my cousin. The helped a million. Im looking forward to the rest! Cheers!

AMAZING O_O

I like it but would like to as a question that comes before these. Where does the daily STEEM come from? What backs it? Is it just "mined" or what? I know, I think, that the social media platform itself, gives it some value, but how exactly does that work? Do the founders get a cut? Is a large chunk of the mined STEEM go into particular people's accounts, or is it really split up evenly based on your STEEM POWER?

Those are good questions. Maybe my original video should be bumped to 4th or 5th in the series.

It's a great topic for your series regardless. I look forward to seeing more. THANK YOU!

That was great. Also re-steeming!
I have seen a lot of questions asking about how the voting power works.
Can't wait for the next video in the series.

Latest Blog

There are a lot of questions about the platform in general just because it's so new and unprecedented. I hope I can help clear up the confusion with this series :)

nice post, up vote

That homage to the Jetsons made me nostalgic.. :'(

Lol anyways great work here. Resteemed! And followed, so that I get the next one as soon as it's ready!

:D Thank you

Thank you!

No, thank you for watching. I couldn't do this if I didn't have an audience and this wonderful community's support.

Great concept! Just reading a block of text is informative, but animation pulls you in weather it be book or digital media! I also LOVE that newbies like me have this option, I'm sure I'm not the only one to flounder in the WTH am I doing mindset :-) I look forward to your series!

I remember when the first one came out, I was blown away by the quality. You did great on the second one also and I am sure you will do great on the third one too. Thanks for doing this for the community!

This is actually still the first one :P

I'm reposting it to generate interest now that I'm turning it into a series.

And since I want the series to start with the basics and build up to the more complicated things, this first video will actually become episode 3 or 4. I listed it as 3 in this post, but other comments have got me thinking that there's a lot more ground I should cover early on!

Thanks for your positive comment :)

I knew this was a repeat of the first one, but I thought you did a second one too? I upvoted your first one the day it came out and it can be verified on the blockchain. Might have thought you got me, but I don't roll with generic comments:P

I've just begun working on the next video. I wrapped up voice recording today.

I like this style. The characters are slightly reminiscent of The Jetsons, but the voice over reminds me of the old time movie news reels. And the content is GREAT. Looking forward to learning more about Steemit by watching cartoons. You're bringing this down to my level! LOL :-)

The Jetsons and old news reels were my two biggest influences. I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for commenting.

WOW! I love that video! And I've been looking at all sorts of posts to understand how the system works. This helped so much! Can't wait for more!

Wow! That is a real masterpiece and you are a master!! Wonder how many hours you have spent making this video :) Will be sharing to other friends as a learning material, thanks a lot!

This post gets a 2.80 % upvote thanks to @sethlinson - Hail Eris !
