The Power of Teaching our Kids about Crypto

Today my son is elated about Steem lol, well more or less the fact I could reup his XBOX Liver for a few more months but he knows exactly where the funds came from, a little BTC mining and a small Steemit article payout. My son is definitely a gamer, like most 11 year olds tend to be but my boy is a little different, he struggles with Autism so gaming is a notch more important to him like most Autistic children.

Due to his Autism he is a very very bright boy, just focused more on math and computers. He is luckily on the spectrum of functional Autism but has his awkward social moments due to his nature. He doesn't grasp money though as well as most children his age, and its very beneficial to me that I am into this financial game and kind of poke at him to learn what I do. So today as a gift I decided to hook him up seeing things have been tight too long and its been a moment since he had his XBOX Live account. While I was inputting his ever important numbers to reup his gaming needs, we chatted about crypto because he was curious how it just poof appears money to help him play more online Minecraft, lol...bright kid.

I think all of us as parents should enlighten our children about money and saving, but most of all about what we do here in crypto because this my friends looks to be the future. Just like our parents made sure we understood the power of personal computers and the internet, I believe we should do what we can to pass on the important lessons of saving and how crypto works so they aren't left behind with the technology as it becomes more mainstream.

Anyways the kid is happy, I am glad for once I can do something for him and my parents now a days while everyone has been so stressed over finances. Here's to all our families and the power of blessings we can bring them through our daily usage of connecting and being a family as well on Steemit.

HAH! That is too awesome. Kids gotta learn about smart money somehow lol

LOL...you got to get there attention where they will listen...just found out XBOX LIVE is not the enemy anymore lol.

Your story touched my heart, kids are amazing and you are too for taking the time to share things like this with him. This whole crypto world is still in its infancy and by the time he is old enough to fully understand it, it will have grown by leaps and bounds. Hoping continued success for you and your family!

I believe as parents we need to teach them this so its a second nature tech when they are older. My son has a bit of issues with the value of money so I figure try to keep teaching till he gets it. Biggest thing, he is curious about it, he likes my miners and curious on how they work. So I figure take time for the little guy and show him the ropes in pieces

Always here to give you guys info...and let you know how the family is doing. Glad it helped, I think we should be very proactive as parents to encourage the crypto learning, may benefit the younger generation one day

So did you have to transfer it to bitcoin or did it actually take steem?

I have a Bitpay wallet and a Bitpay Debit card. Bitpay in their wallet though lets you trade Bitcoin for Amazon Gift Cards on the fly, right in the wallet. I took the steem and sent it to BLOCKTRADES and to the wallet, then bought an amazon gift card. I can't wait till merchants just take crypto everywhere lol..so much easier lol

That's great! I am going to have to research debit cards for my steemie cashola. Will be hard to spend any crypto here for a long time. I need it so I can go to the feed store and purchase feed and stuff. And I don't think a livestock auction would even know what a crypto is! Hahahaha. At least not out here in the boonies.

Bitpay by far is the best one I have used and recommend them. No issues, fees are reasonable and the debit card is a visa so it works anywhere when you load it. All automatic with their wallet, just a matter of telling it how much bitcoin you want to turn into cash on your card. Costs $10 for the card but money well spent

Cool! Thanks for the recommendation, man. I'll pass it along to my husband, @smitty.

Tell him I looked into a lot of them and of all of them I found Bitpay to be the most used and more optional, fees are decent compared to a lot of them. In the USA we don't have many choices but they are #1 in my opinion. And I don't work for them lol

Awesome! Thanks!

Here to help where I can, I been in crypto awhile now so I kind of trailed and errored a lot, rather help others to avoid the crazy mistakes I made lol. Now I am finally at a stage I am fiat free completely, I don't use cash anymore and live off of my crypto earnings so it can be done

Great story and yes, our kids need to know the future currency is not going to be dollars and pounds and any other financial banks.

I agree, and I think Crypto tends to promote saving more than fiat money does. I personally used to suck at saving but not since I found crypto...want to pass that along so he never fails in the savings area lol

Now what a kind thing of you to do for your son :) And cool at the same time!

Great post ! Would you mind if I included it in today "best of gaming"?

Sure go ahead, that would be an honor to have you add my post. I think its very valuable we teach our kids about crypto, little pieces at a time and XBOX did the trick for me today, shows him that working hard in crypto pays off lol. Now he is Minecrafting lol

Great write up :)
That's some really good parenting @sflaherty.
I do believe in passing on the knowledge of finance and especially crypto to the younger generations.
I have introduced my younger brother to the platform. He has now become a believer in Steemit as well :D

One of the biggest things we can do for our kids and show them how to be good with money, I didn't have a great source of that growing up due to my parents always struggling so I love to make sure where I didn't know well to save in my youth he learns what I finally got to learn now. I think its one of our jobs as parents, specially with crypto being a new tech and we know it some to teach

That is awesome...Kid has got some Techie Mind...We gotta do what we can for our Family...and yeah the responsibilty lies on out shoulders to for acquinting our children to this CryptoWorld's ideas....Keep upvoting and steem on!!!

My son is a trip, tell you he sees my miners and says they are cash boxes lol..he is getting it slowly but surely lol. I think we should strive to give them little bits of info about what we are doing at the least, set the ground work for the future so if and when they use this its not so complicated on them. Hate to see my son go through what I went through when I read my first article about Bitcoin and said, what in the hell is this crap lol

This Generation is far more advanced than us(from our forefathers). They set foot on technology right from birth. You are absolutely right, we should be giving titbits till they finally mature enough to grab hold of things and believe me it wont take much energy to make them understand...They are Advanced Generation...

They truly are, my son had my iphone figured out when he was not even 1 years old lol...well he found out how to get to the music...every time though lol. They are truly advanced and getting more advanced as time passes. We should encourage that I believe

My neice although 5 years old remembers the lock Pin of mobile...unlocks it goes to youtube and searches the toons she likes the most. Yea we surely should encourage...

lol...funny how fast they pick up on stuff and always for their uses lol.

It is intringing n very amusing...I struggle to remember fone number lol

How did you make that happen with the Xbox? Can it happen with the PS4?

I just sold some Steem for BTC and put it in my Bitpay wallet. You can buy Amazon Gift Cards in their wallet directly and how I bought his XBOX Live. I also have a Bitpay Visa card so makes it easier
