3 Tips For Starting on Steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

It's difficult to start on Steemit, and I'm only at the beginning of my journey. Even though I have a way to go, I'd like to share what I've learned in getting to 39 followers.

#1: Followers are more important than upvotes

Steemit isn't free money, and it's very hard to get upvotes. Right now, you shouldn't care about upvotes because they only help out a single post, and don't really affect you in the long term. But followers are a different story. When someone follows you, every one of your posts appear in their feed. This means that a follower has the potential to upvote dozens of your posts. In the beginning, you shouldn't care about the money from your posts, you should care about the following you are getting. You can write the best content on Steemit, but if you don't have a following, you won't get any upvotes. This frustrates many people for a good reason. They might be producing quality content, but no one sees it and they aren't able to grow.

#2: To grow your follow count, reach out to other Steemians

Followers are very important, but you do you get them? Followers are really difficult to get, because if no one finds your posts, who is going to like them and then want to follow you? The answer is that you shouldn't and won't get the majority of your followers from just posting. Here's the secret: You need to look at other Steemians' posts and comment on them. Follow them and give them support and they will probably follow you. Not only are you helping out fellow steemians in your same position, but you are also gaining followers at the same time! Make sure to not just comment 'follow for follow' or not read the article. You should read the post and comment something that contributes to the discussion, something meaningful.

#3: Post on a schedule

Make sure your posts are fairly consistent and have a goal for how many times to post per week. My personal one is 5 times per week, but different people have different capabilities depending upon what sort of things they post and their schedule in real life. I would recommend at least posting twice a week, but don't push yourself too hard. At least starting out, you don't need to post more than twice a day. Your time would be better spent building a community and gaining followers through #2.

I hope this article helped you in some way, and please comment some of your thoughts on this post and starting out on Steemit in general.
