RBI has introduced Rs. 200 note

Do you know the reason why it is Rs. 200 note instead of Rs. 250 that stands between Rs. 100 & Rs. 500 (sounds logical, correct?).

Last week the new currency denomination has been floated in the market by Reserve Bank of India. This is the 2nd new denomination introduced in India after Rs. 2000 note.

Reason is Renard Series

According to Renard Series the ratio between the adjacent denomination of currency should be:

1:2 OR 1:2.5

Denominations' Facts:

  • Standard practice around the world is to have 1 series, 2 series and 5 series notes.
  • That is why the denomination in India is in the format of
    • Rs. 1, Rs. 2 & Rs. 5
    • Rs. 10, Rs. 20 & Rs. 50

Lets do some maths

 50 x 2 = 100 (1:2)
 100 x 2 = 200 (1:2)
 200 x 2.5 = 500 (1:2.5)
