Once a transaction goes through a blockchain, it stays there forever. That is my understanding. So, can I safely say that a blockchain is forever, it will be there for eternity? Can it be turned off?
Thank you for helping me solve this mystery.

It's been said that way because blockchain is decentralised data. Everyone who uses a particular blockchain has copy of the same data. However, these data can only be unlocked when you have the correct combination of public and private keys of the owner of a particular data block.
