Be Original and Legal!

Copyright is a very serious thing, and whether you are posting to social media, writing a blog on Steemit or producing content for your website, you must ensure that any materials you are using, are not someone else's intellectual property, and if so, you have full permissions to do so. Even such things as photographs, you must ensure you meet the legal requirement to publish.

Where ever possible, keep a record of sources, as well as the type of permissions you have. When it comes to images, you will find free photo stock sites such as Pixabay where you can use images, as well as overlay your own text and logos, (as long as you do not claim copyright or use the copyright symbol on them.) Again, check the licence for these, otherwise, you can find yourself with a lawsuit and be very much out of pocket.

When it comes to content, copying someone's intellectual property will not only see you with a potential plagiarism lawsuit but also major search engines such as Bing and Google frown upon you using duplicate content and this can also result in a search engine penalty which would have a negative effect on your search engine rankings, (SEO). So producing your own quality, original content is so much better in the long run.

The simplest thing to remember, if it is not yours, have permission to use, and where required be sure to give credit to the original author or artist.
