Steemit, Self-Upvotes, and Feeding the Red Fish and Minnows the scraps.

in steemit •  8 years ago

Sad to say, yet self upvoting (in my belief) seems to be the biggest problem on steemit.

A lot of users are just plain greedy and will only upvote mostly their own posts and comments, leaving the scraps of their depleted voting power for us Red Fish/Minnows.
Please read the following articles, and research the topic yourself, and let me know what you think in the comment section.

I SUPPORT @smackdown.kitty!
Between the rush of new users entering the system, users who are giving up and disappearing because of exactly what I am speaking of, and the constant narcissistic upvoting of self (without any regards for the depletion of one's voting power), I don't see much of a future in this platform for those of us who haven't been here for a year.
Do the majority of the Whales want to chase away the new fish, leaving more of the prize for them to horde to themselves? Or am I over-reacting and wrong (if so, please give me something to support your claim as I have done to support mine).

:D

Thats me! Couldn't tell ya what that is lol

Here you go

This is a major flaw in the Steemit protocol. Self up-voting should be removed in the next fork.

Agreed. And yet not only will the Whales deny it, they will attack anyone who calls them out on it (see @craig-grant's post/meme, straight up disrespecting me for profit over the issue https://steemit.com/steem/@craig-grant/steem-power). The original post he convienently shared only a portion of to attack me can be found here

And yes, by him calling me out and drawing the attention of his Whale Mob I have affectively killed my account here. Oh well, screw 'em and feed 'em fish dicks.

Has anyone noticed; when submitting an article there is a CHECKED Upvote Box (just below Rewards)? Apparently, it is an automatic Up Vote! Those having a crisis of conscience might want to Un-Check that box and administrators remove it from the interface...Just Sayin'....

Indeed, I unticked mine and understand it is entirely a personal decision (it will remain unticked too until either one re-ticks it or clears their browser cookies).

So did i, though i submitted only one article so far....been mostly commenting here and there....got some bad advice somewhere and stupidly up-voted some of my own comments, (inconsequential payout, as i am a guppy or whatever)...was led to believe it would move me up the food chain...i prefer a decent reputation over payouts at this point.

Thanks for pointing this out.

i just might be in the gulag with those who've offended the offended....people with money and a sense of power have always oppressed the poor.... they begin to think they are a whole other species....masturbation is a time honored tradition for those above the clouds....when it comes to money there is no such thing as friends, family or loved ones, it seems....

Cheers, brother
RJohn

It is good to hear I am not alone in my opinion on this subject. Either way I have a secure future with or without steemit. Part of me wishes this whole thing would fall just so these big-shot wannabes would be left with nothing but their own tears (and yet to truly hope for such a thing is not who I am).
I tell you - between the idiots begging attention and the Whales upvoting themselves and their own comments (draining the reward pool like a pulled plug in a sink for thier own gain), and so many either stealing stories or plagiarising.... I'm not sure this place is even for me.
Seems to me it's built to keep making those that have designed it and/or been here from day one richer than their wildest dreams while all us new Red Fish are drowning in the b.s.
But for now I'm just going to keep on enjoying the Argentina sun, dreaming of back home in the U.S. from time to time, and steem on till they destroy me or I succeed.
Thank You RJohn.

Didn't want to drag this out...i work for a living also....but yeah, the beggars are particularly saddening....what little i have is reserved for people and ideas of substance.

Never been to Argentina, but people i know say they'd love to retire there. My understanding is it was-or-is the bread basket of South America....

Historically speaking; too bad so-called "1st world countries" have made a habit of undermining their competitors. Mexico is also very rich, albeit in Silver and Oil...except that the thugs-in-charge always sell-out those countries for Monopoly money and collateralize the debt by signing their natural resources over to international banksters....meanwhile the people live in paper shacks....see John Perkin's book "Confessions of an economic hit man" - if you haven't already.

Catch you later...

thank you for your informative article. It really explained some of the things that I've been struggling to understand as a newbie (minnow?). I'll be using your tips!

Ah, a fellow ex-pat (I'm in Argentina, have left Wisconsin behind for now).
I am glad to have been of some assistance, yet encourage everyone to always vet these things themselves (as you might find from this post pretty much attacking me over this issue, you can see how many Whales disagree and say I am wrong ~~~>>> https://steemit.com/steem/@craig-grant/steem-power - though I must admit it seems their mob attack party came to an end when I put my 2 cents worth into it [boy, I wish I could just shut my mouth sometimes, but then I wouldn't be me]).
I believe us noobs are considered Red Fish now.

Oh wow! I lived in Wisonsin for several years as a child. Have amazing memories. We were in Fox Point. Sad to say the U.S. isn't what it used to be. We love Costa Rica. Definitely a different way of life!
Ahhh a redfish, Huh? :) . Trying to weed through the info here on Steemit. I'm pretty much the trial and error type. Thanks for your response!

I grew up between Stevens Point and the Fox Valley (small town in the middle of nowhere/center of the universe). What a small world! Glad to have bumped into you, definitely one to follow. Interesting stuff!
