Morocco ( Arabic : المغرب ; barber : ⵍⵎⴰⵖⵔⵉⴱ ; French : Maroc ), or Moroccan state ( Arabic : المملكة المغربية ; Alhammakalmagribiyya ; Barbara : ⵜⴰⴳⵍⴷⵉⵜ ⵏ ⵍⵎⴰⵖⵔⵉⴱ ; Tägelddn Lemgrib ) is a state in North Africa . Its capital is named Rabat . The country stretches along the Atlantic Ocean and extends up to the Gibraltar of the Mediterranean in the north . Algeria before Morocco, The Mediterranean and Spain to the north , and the Atlantic Ocean in the west . The southern border is controversial, Morocco claims ownership of the Western Sahara area, and since 1975, most areas of the region have been occupied.
Morocco is a constitutional monarchy. It is the only African country, not a member of the African Union . However, it is a member of the League of Arab League , Arab Maghreb Union , OIC , Group of 77 etc., and NATO allies.
