Be aware that if comments deeper in a thread get voted on then it benefits the earlier comments. I learned this from a post on Steem.io. Of course you can only go down six levels.
I'm a big fan of this idea. More social engagement is not only critically important for the platform to prosper, but one of the main reasons I kept making comments from my Youtube account even after I had ditched the overly narcissistic Facebook community years ago.
I really wish there were more comments and also a better reward incentive to encourage more and better comments. But until such an incentive is engineered, making posts or parts of posts like this one goes a long way.
Maybe they can remove the six levels limit on comments at some point. It's really messing up my conversations and makes me a lot less inclined to engage, just because I don't know how much I will be able to communicate successfully before me and whomever I'm talking to are cut off. :-/
Maybe there can be a more flexible comment structure. At least it goes straight to a new comment. On Tsu you might have hundreds of comments on a post, but it was hard to see what was new. Of course the order changes here as they are votes up, so that can be confusing too.
I've seen people handle it by just going back up a level or two in the same comment thread and continuing the discussion that way. I've done it myself a few times. It's not too hard to follow. Sometimes we just have a lot to talk about, lol. : )
True. Vote on replies to your posts. Make it a rule :)
I did that all the time. I stopped. Why? Because my voting power is less than 30% nowadays and one vote on a comment doesn't bring a thing except lower my VP some more.
How do you get it that low? I don't think mine goes much below 80% with me voting automatically for some peoples' posts. I know my votes don't do much for people, but it's shows I appreciate them
I vote on comments as well. Usually I don't vote on short ones that say something like "Nice article" as sometimes those are bots. Yet if anyone puts some time into the response I tend to up vote them even if it is them posting something disagreeing with me (if they are civil about it). :)
Thanks for that link to the steem.io site. I wasn't aware of it, or the value of upvoting the end of a discussion thread. That will change the way I use my comment votes, for sure!
Very informative post! Thank you.

The amount I make here is not enough to justify my time, but I enjoy the discussions. Thanks for commenting

I do that myself, but it's confusing both for the two people talking and especially for whoever else ends up reading it afterwards.

Oh yes, almost forgot to add. The other good reason to vote on YOUR OWN comments is that the comment gets a lift in the order.
More upvotes and replies the comment has the higher it is displayed.
Again, be careful on how are you using your voting power. Or at least think of it occasionally if you don't care a lot about it.

I'll also vote on some I disagree with if they argue it well.

That site seems to be less known. The docs there are useful and more readable than the official white paper.
