Thanks to everyone who took the time to provide responses to the Steemit Survey.
Part 3
7. WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT STEEMIT?
{Showing 88 responses}
Money and friendship.
It's exciting to get the upvotes and the comments.
The wild wild west pioneering spirit.
revolutionize old economy model
there is no trolling
The community and the different perspectives
The money aspect.
Watching people vote for me
The ability to use it pretty much like you would use an honest to paper version journal and jot down your experiences in life, this time though by having a larger audience to share all these things and hopefully help people.
I used to enjoy the original work. But that's been replaced with SEO clickbait, and illuminati paranoia.
It sounds shallow but I like it when I make some money from something I wrote.
Fresh ideas and being able to comment
the chance to earn for creating my own content
High level of engagement, superior bloggers and post content to all other social media platform. Good people overall. Independent thinkers, creative souls.
I cannot answer at this time. I am dealing with heavy duty health issues so it serves to distract me, which is not in the scope of your intent for this question.
Learning and earning.
Having an excuse to write.
I'll admit I get a little dopamine buzz whenever my blog or comments bring in a few pennies. It's no different really from getting "likes" on your Twitter or Facebook post except the likes are monetized on Steemit turning everyone, even the minimalist-spouting hippies, into mercenaries.
making money
Other than what I've mentioned, the opportunity to get paid for my efforts, according to the value others see in it, is encouraging... and sometimes discouraging. I've written for decent amounts, but this is certainly more interesting. I get to pick the topic, decide how much to put into it, set my own goals, etc. If it makes what I've been paid for articles in the past, then I'm ecstatic. Mostly it hasn't, but there have been some bright spots.
Freedom of expression.
Technical articles.
Helping the community
Ignoring Stellabelle
Money.
Reading honestly good content.
Making money with my writing.
The community is hands down it is the best thing about the site.
Fun, chill, relaxed people who just want to be friendly. I am not about all the factual matters and all the posts about steemit although i do get dragged into them. kinda like this one
The money and the reader engagement.
Core concept. Excitement of being on something new.
Atm I'm reconsidering if I should leave it
The ability to make money by being creative and helping other people with ideas.
revolutionary idea
People met on chat. Getting votes with no $. Annoying whales enough to be annoyed but not enough to flag.
It's challenging. It has become easier to win higher curation rewards because whales are upvoting the same authors. Check Smooth's upvotes to @Halo's posts.
Made new, awesome friends.
The promise of censorship resistance allowing people to speak their mind. It's not there yet thanks to bullies like berniesanders, nextgencrypto and their bots
The concept is amazing and I think this is the future of socialmedia!
Reading interesting articles, tthe feeling of building a network to collaborate to support good causes like UBI and environmental protection.
Really interesting people and great conversations with them.
The community
The potential for monetary rewards although the community is great too so it's probably a tie. I can do without the drama.
Making money
I like the idea of Freedom (being smashed by whales) I like the idea I could earn. Not impressed from a currency side with the POW they have selected.
nothing
i enjoyed always good and meaningful articles that is giving me a good lesson.
The chance to write something others will read
Friendship ;)
I like to read good articles about life and the foodchallenge
It has given me an audience and source of income
some articles are great
Reading original content and catching a glimpse of people's unique perspectives and life experiences.
Getting upvoted! hahaha
to be honest ? I like the feeling when an orca or whale vote for one of my content. It makes me happy. Content are interesting, but you can find and read great content everywhere it is not specific to Steemit
The money.
Community. Almost no uncivil behavior. It exists but at a far lesser degree than other social media platforms. Chance to perhaps make some money sharing ideas, content. The trolls (I've encountered one) are mostly easy to ignore with the way the reputation system works.
I love the interaction of the few people I've connected with. I love the tutorials and the fact that I'm learning something new every day. I'm also pushing the boundaries of my own writing which makes me feel like I've grown as a creator. I also love the potential of making money.
Earning for post, like they said
The quirkiness, the altruism, the feeling of having come home. Facebook once made me feel the same sense of glorious potential, but turned into arguing politics with your aunt's neighbor. I love that Steemit is composed of strangers, many of them like-minded. That comments reward the author discourages bickering. The tone of argument is often respectful. There community includes many fascinating intellectuals, artists and leaders.
It's mix of ideas and anarco / voluntarist participants. I like that it brings statists and anarchists together in one place for discussion.
Opportunity, incentives, and a community growing around it
It's a a novel concept and there is some interesting content.
It appeals to my geeky side, but I see a lot of potential as a new economy
The fact that I can support people who put out innovative articles/software supporting and furthering the blockchain economy.
The concept and the potential.
no censorship
I have discovered some good writers that I wouldn't have otherwise found elsewhere. I mostly enjoy the fact that the technology is disruptive to the norm. And I love that I can tip an author and the money goes to the author.
The interactions and seeing how my posts gain tractions in real time.
The content and user interaction
The drama
payout every week and the fact I can fool the whales with some hot chicks.
I enjoy the ability to read diverse articles and to reward writers with up votes while I receive a little curation reward. I also enjoy commenting and receiving comments.
The community seems to be quite intelligent. just like to look for interesting things when i'm bored at work
The feeling of being a part of something new and exciting.
The minority that treats it as a place to celebrate their art, their writing, to connect with other people of similar passions. I don't mind getting paid for what I bring to the table either!
We have good stories to read here. And I have found good people
Learning and making money doing it.
People
I like to see how authors change his style over the time and stop to make a bunch of worthless post and try to do something good. Also I like to see how community find a connection points between each user. Not all involve in this process but lot of them. I also like to help authors and sometime promote theys
The fact it is a revolutionary platform.
The idea of growing a crypto community and social network online. Very revolutionary.
Some of the people.
being able to write and read what you want.
Interesting articles.
Socializing with others
Voicing my opinion
blockchain
8. WHAT CHANGES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON STEEMIT?
**{Showing 89 responses}
More money and decentralization. I mean more dolphins that care. And more people, of course.
to new to know
A css-able profile page à la MySpace. Grouping followings (à la Google Circles). Absolute user control over the streem filters (tags, users, date). Advanced analytics for everyone - who votes for whom, who follows whom etc. Curated banlists, completely editable by the user.
UI / UX design features internationalization
i would like to have my profil page like facebook so i can invite my friends over
full member democracy
Upload pictures to steemit as opposed to having to link in.
More "democratic" voting power distribution
Make the interface easier for newbies. When I did my first post, I wanted to share an image but was unable to do it. As far as it goes for the monetary benefits, I will have to read a lot of informative posts to still understand everything there is to know about cryptocurrency and all the monetary rewards.
A more segregated navigation experience like on Reddit. So that small communities can be formed around content they like.
I've seen really shitty posts, bad grammar, badly written, etc, with massive rewards. Posts that look like they had no effort in them whatsoever.
Don't know it well enough to comment
i love it maybe ability to add a profile photo/avatar?
Favorite buttons, easier bookmarking, complete browser history, ability to PM from a person's page or by clicking on their name rather than having to go to chat. Greater distribution of the "wealth"...though I think this will organically sort itself out as the platform grows and specialized niches/writers/followers/curators embed.
A 'start here' button for newbies, perhaps a tutorial on what it ACTUALLY takes to be successful here. A basic writing 101 course which covers plagiarism, sources, authoring, how to provide quality content. VOTING- Curation is a joke. Minnows will make 0.001 to 0.005 on curation. Big fish use bots and make good curation rewards. This results in no actual reading of materials. Good writers can come here and never be seen (Dana Edwards). While Steemit touts its growth in numbers, quality writers are not being retained. Steemit doesn't see this as an issue which I find very odd. NO ONE IS READING. Whales should be held accountable for their voting power, it should come with responsibility. If that power is not used, at least to some degree, to launch the quality material, than what is it good for. Ahhh, there it is, its good for lining their pockets by joining together and using bots to vote a certain list each day, taking the curation as well as authoring. How about banning voting bots. Remove vote button from the wall, only able to vote from inside the post. I don't know that you could stop voting bots on a blockchain, but you could penalize those using them by (guessing) -2 reputation, day after day and they will stop. Back to whales must take responsibility for that voting power and use it to better serve Steemit as a whole by finding those hidden gems (probably not on the promoted wall LOL) and voting them up. Without a drastic measure in this area Steemit is just a farse with an insiders club and we are not in it. Can I bold that last line.
Give rewards to those who are worth rewarding.
Fewer $2000 plus payouts and significantly more $50-$200 payouts to encourage new contributors.
I would like to see even voting power. It's disheartening to see how badly written posts are rewarded with thousands of dollars. I don't mind well written or interesting posts getting money and it's sad to see that so many articulate bloggers get only a few likes and pennies.
flatter curation and reward distribution
Mostly it's about the way folks vote. But that's not the platform. That's people's right to do what they want, which I defend. There's clearly a level of immaturity though, as folks flock around the homecoming kings and queens, even when their content isn't all that great. It's discouraging for lesser known writers who put out some great content. Having said that, there are a lot of whiners on Steemit that are not good writers. Their content sometimes is okay, but their style is not. Some are downright terrible with their structure. Others have good structure, but are boring. So it's a mixed bag. As for the platform, I'm pleased with the direction it's gong. We're in Beta, and only have been for a little bit. There's a lot to learn, work through and tweak before it's ready to release from beta.
A more balanced system or rewards. More people properly tagging their content. A functioning mute feature.
The changes that are being set in place. I like the
Less bullshit featured writer posts
More Oranges.
No changes.
- Some equalization in voting power so that financial success here doesn't depend on whales. 2, Also, get rid of the whale bots and fake accounts they've set up. With all of the steem and SP the average whale has, I don't know why they have to go back to the well to enrich themselves further, to the detriment of really good minnow writers. 3. Finally, it's demoralizing to see the wealthy friends of whales buy a lot of steem and arrive here as immediate whales. Thy then post insipid content, are voted up by other whales and make thousands. I hope this wasn't ned and dan's vision. But they do nothing about it.
There is a great inbalance of voting power on the platform. This must change if Steemit is going to survive. I've seen some articles get dozens of likes, yet earn hardly any money. This isn't good.
- I would like us to be able to have channels for our content, I'm so much more than one thing i'd like to make my niche. 2. long term residual income..at the moment their is very little incentive to create evergreen content by having an ad's reward program which proven content creators can opt into and earn from after the 30 day payout would be a massive boost for creators who rely on residual income for a living.
More kindness. I feel like as soon as someone gets power they become power houses and act like they're better than all the minnows. In all reality they aren't better articles...
I would like to see the interface become more user friendly.
Curation weighting needs to be resolved.
Fair payments. Equality. Removal of curation rewards
Better down vote / flag system (requiring users to choose why content was flagged) A "suggested" feed for finding content you may like that may not be found through other means. An integrated store for buying and selling in steem dollars. The ability to upvote more than once on a post maybe 2x max. More ways for non bloggers to engage whether sharing art, photography etc in a tinder like section with separate voting percentages. Ability to comment more than six levels deep.
communities and debit cards
Community. Openness. Less bitching.
I would like people and posts that are always complaining. If they want to earn more, they should buy steem and power up. Money goes to money.
See what happens.
I'm not worried or waiting for Steemit to change. If Steemit doesn't live up to the promise of censorship resistance their are plenty of other platforms in the crypto verse looking to take it's place
Some features which helps new members to reach the high rewards and the attention of the whales.
All votes should have the same weight. Flagging stuff because you disagree with it is an abomination and needs to be stopped. I would like a UBI to be implemented on Steemit. More support for smart contracts. Having feeds based on topics. Better graphics design. Direct messaging. A patreon style model for monthly recurring donations to supprt content creators of your choosing. More wealth redistribution is form of robinhoodwhale like intiatives,by dolphin groups.
I've been happy (so far) with the changes the team is constantly making. They seem responsive and so far I trust their judgement.
Profile pages with links to our social. Rss feeds for accounts.
- Get a referral system going. Not everyone wants to write. Readers may want to refer others. 2) Find a better new user landing page with tagline for mainstream audience. 3) Hide all the zero values on each post. Just show it when it's at least a cent. Better psychologically and a cleaner UI I think.
Payments happening on old posts past 4 weeks
I would like the push for quality content to go away, and see what would naturally rise to the top.
Updates in Android app
More justice
To be a really social network. Not a capitalist engine in disguise.
Whales have too much power and there are only 20 witness, it is not fare.
Dollar vigilante to disappear as well as all the crap about anarchism. I get it.
I WOULD LIKE TO REPLY AND UPVOTE SOON!!
Unpaid posts by admin or delegated users to post public announcements that are under a separate category (or bulletin) so they're easily accessible without needing to be upvoted, per say.
Stability, as much as possible, so I can feel secure to do my thing.
Give more power to minion curators. The distribution algorithm is I think to much unbalanced. They can lately rebanlance in an 'unfair way if they want' when there will be more users. But now we are all early adopters. Dan and Ned should behave more like a real startup by paying community managers to find and promote new users, specially the kind of users they want to see at the core of Steemit. Right now, some whales are whales not because they post great content but just because they stumble upon the platform very very early
Less bots and equal posting rewards. Whales have too much voting power.
better upvoting system
Something like FEEDS that allows you to view specific tags rather than people you are following, though definitely keep FEEDS. The default landing page to perhaps be a cross section of most up voted (not necessarily the same as most earning) posts from across tags. https://steemit.com/steemit/@dwinblood/considerations-for-a-future-steemit-com-landing-page-goal-retention-of-new-people
If I could make a change, it would be to have someone develop an algorithm for searches and let newbies and minnows have their work highlighted. In essence they get their own link. The algorithm might include reputation score between, let's say 35-60. Formatting would be important so it would need to pick up the use of headers and CREDITED photos, and maybe an autorun through copyscape to weed out any plagiarism.
Alerts of mentions, more friendly place, not to feel like a casino/ lottery
Clear lines of communication need to be formed. I read williambanks's open letter about trying to get an issue addressed only to have a dev close it on GitHub. He had gathered the people to have the discussion only to have them all locked out of the room. People will get frustrated with that. It's also tricky to find resources and answers to obvious questions. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm doing something wrong or if the site is buggy. For instance, I have not been able to power up because I'm logged in with a posting password and the active one seems to have too many characters to log in with. I saw someone post about how to power up and asked there, but they were actually complaining about know-nothings and the encounter was frustrating. While I see a lot of good intention all around, there are a variety of disconnects between the way developers tend to operate and the way the rest of us do. I notice "help me" posts from new users, often with English as a second language, and often ignore them, too. The site needs to be more welcoming and gentle with new users.
Continued UI improvements, search capability, tags listed in a determined order.
greater diversity of whales voting on different niche topics
To see more rewards and more evenly distributed. It's a total ponzi scheme.
The allocation of Steem is skewed. I understand how it works, but some posts seem over-valued
It could be improved if curators earned more from curating as long as they wrote some articles. It could also be improved if articles written more as "copy" (marketing) by known marketers could somehow be limited in order to avoid simple vote/curating "avalanches".
An app, separate categories for blogs, vlogs, and short little updates, like status updates. Oh and an actual profile that can be built would be nice. Other then that I think the useability of steemit is phenomenal, I can't stress that enough, the website is a blast to use. So yeah, profiles, an app, and separate categories for videos and blogs (status updates are what ever but we really need to separate videos on blogs).
more virality and speed
Maybe have a subscribed to tag feature sort of like reddit has seperate subreddits. Then you could have a filtered pages that shows only the tags you are interested in.
The rewards system and how posts get attention.
Too many.
Whales like you should be forced to spread money to noobs
I need a Block button I need a Share Steem Power button I need an Deactivate my account button I need a collaborate button I need a hard fork so we start all over again
I would like to see my voting power on my wallet page or somewhere on steemit so I don't have to go to steemd or another external tool to find it. I also look forward to being able to have an exchange of some sort, where we can buy things with steem,
not really sure. maybe if we could add javascript to posts maybe users could make some fun although basic games or SVG and have animated graphics. Just for fun.
More applications layered on the blockchain, such as specialized side chains for certain content: video, music, tweets, etc. Based more on media type than subject.
Oh gosh, downvotes need to be separate from flags, so people can feel safe using them to downvote content that simply doesn't deserve the big payout. Abuse needs to be taken seriously if the developers truly want to integrate social media into a technology that may not be suited to receive it.
Change reward algorithm them to be 1.5 power instead of squared. Add gamification elements, additions that add to activity levels.
It's very basic so I would like an update and be able to upload a photos/videos directly
Unlink downvote from reputation. I don't like the idea of 1 person being able to destroy your reputation because they don't like something you said.
Usability
Lot of changes. More user friendly UI, wallet, vote distribution, chat messages, some more options.
More distribution of voting power.
The ability to private message other users.
Less sociopaths, less circle-jerk, more fun, more variance in topics, better comments section, less sucking up, better voting system, better communication from devs, changelog
better voting power spread out like alot.
It's too early to tell.
I don't have enough time to put them all here.
Better distribution, content filtering and categorization. Possible monetization in the form of ads or such
filtering
9. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE PROMOTED POSTS FEATURE? HAVE YOU USED IT?
{Showing 89 responses}
I think it's useless for me. I've used it once, just no effect.
no I have not
IT IS GREAT! A wonderful way for rich accounts who want to advertise Coca Cola, McDonalds or Disney to burn lotsa"money" and share the wealth all over the economy! Yes I tried it, on another user's post I coincidentally wanted everybody to see anyway because it was so good (almost everyone else promoted his own stuff in the first minutes). There was a bug on the browser side, so I sent the same amount three times :]
i promoted my post 5$, didnt get much reward for it didnt felt any diference
I think its a pretty good idea
no, but I am observing it closely
I've used it. But I don't like having any data on how the post did because of the promotion.
Yes. Mixed feelings, but it's good that people can pay for a service using SBD
No. What is a promoted post?
Think it's a good initiative, but it would be better if there was some time guarantee that a post would stay in a certain position.
I tried it but I don't have enough to make it worthwhile.
Not sure ... haven't used yet
it's cool and yes i have used it twice and received pretty good results
I feel it is aimed more towards commercial advertisers and celebs than individual bloggers. I imagine the cost of promoting posts to feature on the front page will quickly become prohibitive to anyone else.
No. In a few weeks it will just be another wall of crap self promoted. PASS
I dont like it. Only advantage for the rich.
Nervous about the vote limit. I need more info to set my mind at ease.
No, haven't used it and I don't think I know what this is.
good, yes
I dabbled with the promoted post feature. I think it's pretty much useless.
I have not been active on Steemit the past 3 weeks, and have not used it yet. However, I dislike the prospect of it and I think it diverts from the original overall idea of Steemit as a platform.
No I haven't used it. I think it's a very good feature.
It's shit.. But atleast it's a moneysink
No
It's fine.
I used it once. When a minnow promotes a post you drop to the basement. Nobody can see your posts. It's useless unless you're a whale.
It's a bad idea, and I think it's already proving to be a disaster. The price to promote your article quickly shot into the stratosphere. It just isn't worth paying $100 to promote an article. I don't plan on using it. Ever.
No and i won't be, you need a small fortune in sbd for your post to be seen there. I did considor using it to give a small boost to articles i enjoy but for what i can spare it's even useless then so it's better to just send the author the sbd instead. Once advertisers move in it will be full of spammy adverts very loosely disguised as content.
na
I think the promoted post feature is just a way to get more currency in circulation. I think that the community as a whole looks down upon posts that are promoted. They are viewed as having less integrity.
I have tried, I haven't been able to work it out.
yes, nothing special
Love the addition value it adds to steem dollars. Basically non intrusive ad revenue that goes back to steemit. I've used it with varying results but like the idea.
It works cool as for me
Meh. I haven't used it but I do read it, one more way for people without rewards to feel left out.
See the answers below. If whales are upvoting the same authors, means they don't even check promoted posts.
Not important.
Nope
Yes I used it, but it´s not working with small budgets.
no,I can´t afford it. It will be used for advertising,I guess, in the future, if Steemit survives and thrives. I might use it If I had more that 1000 SP, I´m around 30 now, with no money so, not happening this year to say the least.
Yes, I got a great return on my first use of it. I probably won't use it again, unless I decide to promote my business. I think it's a great idea with multiple benefits for the network.
I have used it with little success.
Yes I think it's great. It serves several roles. If you want more attention to your post or if you think others deserve attention you can promote it. It also feels like an investment if you think a post is undervalued. Also if advertisers want to promote their products/services that gives them a good place to do and it will help to validate the value of the Steem ecosystem. I used it and will continue to use it occassionally.
Seems lame; no
More pay to play. Eh, I like freedom, but eventually I see this becoming pay for votes. I don't like that element, but I support the freedom of the network to go where it will.
Promoted post feature is very good for those who are newbies, they can promote yourself, i will use it in future.
Dont know
Yes, once. Right after it was launched. A waste of SBD.
Not yet
I've used it a bit. But it only seems to be worthwhile if you pay a high amount
No
I haven't used it yet.
Yes, doesn't work. Looked at the top posts today, and the majority made a huge loss.
Why not. It's good that they show willingness to try different things. Wether it is working or not I don't know. The functionnality of this feature is still very limited it is not like facebook ads for example.
Waste of money.
no i have not used it , but I feel that it will be helpful for others
I'm not particularly a fan of it. Yet it is a tab so I can ignore it. My fear is that people that can distribute wealth around the platform and thus make the platform work might instead focus only on that tab. Then it will become a circle jerk where only people spending to promote posts are voting on each other. The rest of the platform would likely wither and die if that happens. I tried it with meager amounts with no noticeable effect.
Pfffftttt. I donated a measly dollar to see where I'd land (purely out of curiosity) and nearly gave up looking for my own post. I think it segregates the haves from the have-nots and it drives me nuts when I see people who promote their own post and then an hour later edit/delete it and run away with the upvotes. Yeah, promoted posts can bite me.
Money pit
I love merej99. When she posted about being frustrated with the promoted posts feature and I saw others agreeing in the comments, I decided it would probably never be a tool that would serve me at my current level.
I have read about it, have not used it. In general I think it's a pretty good idea, a better way to do raw advertising, and a way to segregate advertising in one "fences in" area where people can choose to see it or not.
Very excited to see what direction it takes; seems like it could be very useful; yes I use it regularly now
It's a nice feature. Haven't used.
I'm okay with it. Put a few cents on one of mine just to try it, but it wasn't going to make a big difference
I don't care much about it. I havn't used it.
I have not used it but I like it. Burns SBD which is nice and it's a way to advertise which, it's all about options. I do plan on trying it out for myself in the future, for the time being we shall wait and watch how it plays out.
god monetizing function to get investment in
I'm undecided on the promoted posts feature.
I think it's a good thing but I have not used it. I feel I don't have to as long as my posts are of quality content.
Nope. Will try it maybe.
Nope, as I have NO MONEY
That is useless.
I think it is an interesting experiment that may bring new members who want to advertise something and may help with the price of steem since it reduces supply, but I have not used it yet.
yes, not really sure what its about. hot trending promoted who cares they look the same mostly just go to my feed or recent.
Haven't had much interaction with it. Not sure.
Just awful. I saw an example brought up where it's been used to censor (give that post 199 and 10 more 200) so it's pushed off the page! Crazy! I look down on articles that have been promoted, even though I know the author might not be doing it...
Useless I did use it, I would never read it or pay for it. It's another example of a thing built for whale curators. It's makes it easier to find post to. It's on so they can look at trending or promoted now. I do like that it burns sbd.
It's a good idea but unfortunately I have no STEEM/Steem Power so I haven't used it although I would like to :(
No.
Yes, spent 1 SBD
I use it maybe 10 times. I can't says what it's really helps but, I see some post on first page or little bit bellow.
I have not used it yet but a neat idea!
I've tried it. Still too soon to tell if I really do like it, but it is interesting.
Meh. Yes.
not worth it. we dont even know how it works.
I haven't used it. I occationally look at it.
It's awesome and yes.
I've used it. So far it has not been a good investment as I don't have the steem to make it in the top 30 or so
i don't like it.
10. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THE MONETARY REWARD SYSTEM IS AFFECTING YOU NEGATIVELY OR POSITIVELY?
{Showing 90 responses}
It's affecting me positively.
positively
I don't care for the monetary reward system, to be perfectly honest - it doesn't affect me at all. For me, this is a MMORPG and I'm leveling up a bit with each good post.
for now its positive, but in my opinion it can end negatively because incentive push people to adapt their personnality and the content to the reward system
I am not sure, on one hand is nice to receive money for writting but on the other hand it is a very stressfull experience especially when you write a nice article and receive nothing, sometimes i felt almost embarassed to be honest
personally it is too early to judge
Positively. I'm not a whale, but every dollar I make is more than I had before.
Positively
I am still trying to understand how this works, so cannot give you a clear answer in this time.
Caring about them did make me feel depressed before. So I don't engage with Steemit as much now.
Negatively.
Haven't really got a grip of it yet ... still understanding.
i dont know i think i'm doing okay so far?
Positively. Because I am getting rewarded I feel a moral responsibility to produce the best I can. What I put out there is reflection of who I am. Thanks Leah, great idea this! @davidbrogan
Strong mined, so I chose what affects me. Whether Steemit addresses these issues or not, the pay to post theme is a cat that has been let out of the bag. It is not going back in. This trend will be the norm and a balance will be found.... here or somewhere else. The time has already changed. Look up, you're foraging that path.
Yes positively.
Positively. It has encouraged me to write and to assure that I am putting forth my maximum effort when I do.
Both. It's negatively affecting me in that I want to leave Steemit but it's also positively affecting me in that I am more inspired to do more with my Wordpress blog which I neglected over the summer. It currently brings in about $400 a month in ads and this year so far $3000 in freelance work projects. I came across some posts here on Steemit that sparked a few ideas so now I'm eager to implement them on my blog.
negatively
It just is what it is. Everyone has a right to use their vote how they please. As I noted earlier, I just wish some would grow up and quite voting up mediocre content because of popularity or celebrity status. But everyone has the right to be petty and juvenile. Some just abuse the privilege.
Positively for the most part. There is no rational reason to say it affects anyone negatively unless they rely on Steemit as their only source of income (which I would not think that is a good idea at this stage). However, as I have expressed before, the system is incredibly unbalanced and unfair to the majority.
positively
Positively.. Money in the bank!
Super Happy!
Positively.
I've made about $500 here so far. I'm a good writer. But I made that money only because from time to time two whales vote on my stuff. I have no idea why.
The current monetary reward system is not good enough for me to keep posting articles long-term. I posted two articles a day for my first couple of weeks. I'm now down to one. I might cut back even further to an article once or twice a week. It just hasn't been worth the effort so far.
at first it did have a slight negative impact causing a little bit of stress as you try to work it all out. we definatly need a newbie bootcamp to help them through that stage
possibly.. not really sure
Very much positively. It's changed my life, truly.
Negatively effects my writing, but there would be no writing without it.
Negatively. They should not promise things they cannot provide. All "Blog. Get Paid" lie. It should say "Buy 15000 SP. Blog. Get Paid" when you sign in.
Positively. It makes me strive to make the content as good as possible. Having comments monetized prevents much of the trolling seen on other sites, and respectful disagreements are more likely
Positively for sure, it pushed me improve my english skills and just for it i'm grateful to this platform
I haven't spent anything so very slightly positively.
What is this question? Everybody is here for the money. They thought it was easy money that's why they came here, at first place.
POSITIVE!
The promise has been positive, the reality has barely registered
Sometimes positive, sometimes negative...
Both. It is taking to much cognitive bandwidth to check whether or not I got comment or curation rewards. I do it obsessively. This is because I have always been poor, and now I want to make money, and be financially independent, and do good with the money. And I will suceed eventually, because I´m smart. And modest, lol.
Positively by incentivizing productivity at a level I have not felt in years. I've improved my communication skills, video production, writing, conflict resolution, reading comprehension, creativity, etc.
It is the only reason I am using it over my blog frankly.
Yes it's definitely positive. It's helped me a lot financially as an early adopter although my expectations are measured going forward. All value is subjective so it's tough mentally for anyone to guess what the rewards will be, but it helps me to be realistic and know it doesn't matter what I think, a group of people with the most vested interest in making sure Steemit is a success get to decide. Just like in a business I may think consumers will want what I create, but it doesn't matter. The consumers ultimately decide. (Although people shouldn't feel too bad here because this is a niche right now and their content may be appreciated when the right audience is here or eventually some time in the future.) In this system those with the most at stake and most to lose will get to decide and that makes sense. I wouldn't want people that had very little stake to have too much influence. It's better for people to earn their stake to gain influence.
Positively
As a minnow there really isn't much monetary reward system and they need to alter their marketing. Also, I am not sure many would consider this a currency under the current POW.
Reward system of Steemit is affecting me positively.
Positively
Negatively.
Negatively, never got a reward for my posts
Very positively but it seems to be getting harder with more competition and lower payouts/ lower steem price
Negative. I can't do anything
Positively, most definitely!
Positively!!! Money that I didn't have before, come on???!!!
Hard to say. I earn some money, even when I earn 50 bucks on a post I'm happy. Now as a society, I don't think that it's good to earn something like 15000 for one single post, no matter what kind of post it is, and no matter who you are. I mean of course I would be very happy if I earn this kind of money for one post. Actually I have already earn 2000 bucks with one post. I spent time on it, I was very happy in the end. But I don't think I deserve that much, nor anybody. It would be better for the community and the general feeling that every post should be limited to a certain amount of money, but I'm not sure they want to go in that direction. The wealth distribution in our society is more than unfair. (The 1%) Here the distribution system reproduce this. And I am not talking about the wealth of Dan & Ned. They deserve to have the vast amount of steems. It is their company. But I am talking about how money is distributed. I wish the voting power to be a bit more human based than capital based. Thanks for this survey. I took my time to contribute so I hope it will be useful.
Current system is unequal and that unequality affects negatively.
Positively and negatively , I get detered when I only make 2 cents , and I get excited when I make more than 10 dollars
Positively. I don't have an envy problem. I did initially and then I recognized it for what it was and killed it. I realized that when other people are up lifted that just increases the chance they can also uplift people like me and vice versa. The promoted posts tab may upset that dynamic. I'm also seeing some bogus accounts like @mrron and @msgivings that seem like accounts created for people that already wealthy/powerful to farm power and wealth. Way over rewarding every single post for these new accounts... looks like a farming operation... @klye did an analysis of @mrron and @bacchist did an analysis of @msgivings.
I don't know enough about the reward system to really answer this. I can only go by what my account is doing and I really like seeing my numbers climb. Overall, I believe it's positive because I'd be making ZERO anywhere else.
Too soon to tell
I have to admit that some of the good feeling I have about Steemit comes from the casino effect of knowing an article could make money for me. If I were making enough to call myself a writer, even holding down a day job, it would bolster self-esteem. Being paid would give me a sense of legitimacy the way an actress who waits tables values that position as an extra. I couldn't get that feeling of legitimacy writing clickbait for some garbage site. For a novice blogger, Steemit's promise of pay offers more than money. At the same time, I had a visitor to my Steemit blog tell me he was shocked at how little I was being paid for the quality of my research and writing. The post that was robinhoodwhaled got forty-something votes and paid around a dollar. If my best posts made closer to five or ten dollars, I think I'd feel like I was doing well. I do understand why so many feel insulted at having good pieces valued at six cents or less while lesser pieces with fewer votes are valued in the hundred or thousands of dollars. It's seeing the community's value of one's work as insultingly low that generates so much ill-will around the monetary rewards.
It could be better, but then I haven't put the work in to develop a following either. I do my thing and get whatever followers / audience I get. I could certainly be more proactive about the side of the equation I have control of. I believe the incentives designed into steemit are quite ingenious tho. My understanding is weak concerning the specific mechanics of payout schedules, how long comments are accepted before no longer being allowed, and the specifics for curation rewards.
positively; its lit a fire in my creative mind to keep writing and searching for things to write about
Somewhat positively.
I'm not making much yet, but I'm okay with that.
Slightly positively, but I'm not sure it's enough to keep new users engaged over time.
Positively, massively positive... Anyone who takes the reward system as negative is an idiot. It has it's issues but negative? Pshhh fuck that shit :-). It's money for posting or voting or commenting, it's paying, it's working, it's great. The only sore people are those who felt like they'd get rich right quick and haven't hit the post jackpot yet so they are pissy.
definitly positive!
So far I only see positive benefits. Depends on if you used to get paid consistently for your content before you started using steemit.com.
The monetary reward system is a double-edged sword for me. It is both negative and positive.
In between.
I WILL HACK YOU
It's not affecting me at all, that's the problem
Of course affecting me positively. But others are making more than I do from my content. Creators should get 80%, Curators 10%, Comments 10%.
The monetary reward system is positive for me. I have not invested any money but have in fact made money and continue to make money on the site.
I got a big payout on the 4th then not much since. the pump looked good but couldn't cash in because everything was locked in vesting. now I'm close to the 4th payout which is nice for doing practically nothing.
Posititively. I am interested in the incentive mainly as a platform innovation. More interested in how it can shape the platform generally than how it affects me personally. My main long-term interest is as an investor in the Steem Power token, not as an income stream currently.
Positively! It was hard to pay rent and have money left over for food and gas! I think overall though, money brings out the worst in humanity. It fosters illusions, expectations and also schemes and deceit.
I wish it was more evenly distributed but overall it's the first of its kind. Positive but could be better
If I am able to create good content I can earn some money. It's fair, so I could say positively
neutral.
Positively
"positively" because lot of people becomes to think "what I need to do better to get some reward" Even if they some first time don't have an public and whale attention.
Both I love the system but atm whales have too much voting power and I feel that's a huge negative aspect that turns ppl off to the platform.
Positively. My earnings are very small, but I do see potential for growth.
Meh. I'll take the money if they want to give it to me, otherwise I couldn't care less.
I have my ups and downs.
Not an important part for me.
positively
Remains to be seen
both
Obviously, I am going to make them multiple choice in the future, but I think I'll now make this last question into a music video with a computer speaking the responses!
Have a good day or night, wherever you are! I hope this information helps improve Steemit!
Part 1 is here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@stellabelle/steemit-user-survey-results-part-1
the funniest response: "I need a Block button I need a Share Steem Power button I need an Deactivate my account button I need a collaborate button I need a hard fork so we start all over again"

That's really fun! :) Maybe it'd be better to have reset-my-life-button? ;)

Very interesting and revealing information. Fantastic job all round. Funniest part is I really had to think hard which responses were mine again, LOL :)

It will be interesting to see how many of the recommendations eventually end up in place. There are some good ones there for sure.

Thanks for conducting the survey. I hope you'll consider doing a follow up survey that gives people more multiple choice answers so it will be easier to see what's going on at the aggregate level instead of having so much focus on unique individual responses.

Lots of qualitative answers. A little tough to find a common community thread of consciousness.

Thanks Leah. It's a lot to wade through, isn't it?
You might delete usernames when they sign, since that might have been for your eyes only. Generally surveys are anonymous with the person filling it out given the ability to identify themselves to the surveyor, if they want. But folks will also generally expect not to see their answers identified with them publically.

I love the answers to Q.8 " WHAT CHANGES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON STEEMIT?"
I think Steemit would be such a better place if @dantheman and @ned implemented these changes. Without these changes, I'm really starting to get discouraged from spending so much time on my posts and engaging with the community.

Nice to know others feel the same way and I had considered the fact that whales are the actual abusers by being so 'selective' with their voting power. Oh well, hope the forum sticks around anyway because there are better people with brains on here than there are on other forums. Bummer I missed the opportunity to take the survey.

It seems like majority of these responses are written by compulsive sycophants. They are either delusional, under informed newbies or dishonest. It all looks candy with glitter shitting unicorns to them. When I talk to people in chat, the opinions are mistlt mixed between negative and positive or shifting towards negative.
