Steemit is like the future of social media platforms, basically it's incentivized all around and it's running alongside the blockchain Steem. It's a site similar to reddit, but if you upvote people's stuff, or "curate", you have a chance of making money when it goes trending. If it does well, both you and the author make a % in Steem which then can be converted to BTC or USD. If you create content, you have a slightly higher chance of getting more Steem.
If you don't care to create content though to get that sweet, sweet crypto.. no worries! You can just invest and either wait for the price of Steem to go up or you can use your influence to both help the site out and earn some interest on your capital. Steemit is definitely an interesting view of what the future's going to be like, but hey if you make an account please upvote my stuff :D
