My second week on Steemit - What I don't like to far

Yeah steemit is cool and bla bla bla, thousands of people already wrote how "great" this social network is and I do believe it is the future too but it definitely ain't as great as all the fanboys here have been claiming.

On this post I'll be focusing on the things that I don't like and not on the things that I'd change or need improvement.

So what do I hate here?

Upvotes.

What's the problem with upvotes?

  1. there is a huge difference in power among users and that ain't right.

  2. I agree with u, my posts are shit so far but at least 30% of posts who get big bucks they are way shittier than mine and seeing that it is really frustrating.

  3. we shouldn't have the option of upvoting our own posts

  4. Not fair that a whale vote could count more than 100 hundred (or even 1000) upvotes from other users.

OK done for now with the upvotes, what else?

Atmosphere

It kinda feels dead here, no real connection, most people here just trying to make money and that's it, I don't know, it just doesn't feel right. I never thought that here would be like facebook or instagram or snapchat but I thought that it'd be a little bit like Twitter kinda feeling but not really so for now yeah I don't really like the atmosphere here.

Power up

In the future I want to write a post on why steemit is bound to fail if it doesn't make quite a few adjustments and powering up is one problem. If steemit has to become the next big thing, it has to become way easier to use and powering up should be more immediate, it should just be a click away from your page.

Am I going to stop using steemit?

No. I'm here because I invested in this project and I really believe that it's the future, I just hope things were better here and I hope the creators will make the right adjustments and put steemit on track to become the number one Social network in the world

You have not found the right communities or people yet then. Do you recall the Bali Volcano from late last year, and all the peoples in several small communities had to evacuate, they were evacuated for quite a long time. @samstonehill and @chron did a charity drive on steemit to try and help ease the peoples burden a little bit, they raised money, awareness, and followed through with their promise of camp kits for some of the peoples.

Go visit @lynncoyle1 's blog, ask her if she thinks there is no "Connections" between people on steemit. There are good people on steemit. You just need to find the right community.

I'll leave all the "upvote" issues for someone else to explain it to you. A lot of the whales Invested their money in steemit, so yes they have more SP than you, or me. Once again it comes to community, find one that looks good to you, see if you fit in there. Trying to make a *community fit you is not going to work, unless you build your own.

If you have not done so yet, examine some of the steemitchat rooms, or the discord chat rooms, surf a little bit through all the tags, tag the weekend to do a little bit ore exploring. I will tell you most of the stuff on trending and hot tabs are bought and paid for spots with bots, so usefulness is somewhat questionable when it comes to finding a group of like minded individuals.

Thank you @bashadow for using me and @briancourteau's story as a beautiful example of what a community actually looks like here! I'm so glad that you are a part of ours :)

@talkingwiseshit, I'm not too sure how long you have been here, but here's a little analogy I've used in a past post to explain my take on steemit and why commenting is so very important (as opposed to blogging) to develop your community here:

Imagine moving to a new town where you don't know a soul. You're so excited to be there, so you decide to throw a party. You meticulously plan everything, you buy and prepare food and drinks for everyone, and you even decorate. It takes a lot of time and effort, but that's ok, because when the night of the party arrives, everything is perfect. Your house looks great, the food and drinks look awesome, and you even look like a million bucks. It's all ready. So you open your front door and you wait, and wait, and wait...

...and not a single soul shows up. Absolutely no one.

Of course there are those here who focus on themselves and the money they can make. I choose to focus on like-minded indivduals who want to develop genuine relationships, and like @bashadow suggested, there are a lot of groups like @newbieresteemday whose focus is on community and welcoming and supporting folks here. I am a member of several and would gladly extend an invitation to you if you are interested.

I'm glad you are going to stick it out; trust me, it is worth it :)

OK. Thank you

Hi -- a couple of thoughts:

  • I've tried to publish a small post each day to develop content on Steemit; I think we're in a chicken-and-egg phase where we need to proactively generate real content to make the platform worthwhile down the road.
  • Have you tried using the busy.org interface? It's how I use Steemit most of the time.

Cheers,

@dcj

I haven't. Thank you for your suggestions

Glad to hear you're going to stick with Steemit! There are quite a few issues that most of us see but tbe platform is still in beta and does have a lot of pros to go with those cons! Keep Steemin' out quality content and making good connections in comments and you'll be growing before you know it.

Thank you

I agree with you on all points. But, unfortunately, that is the way it is. Initially, I find it weird to be voting for my own posts too, but given the other inequalities on upvotes, I thought, sure why not.

Yeah, I guess I should start to do that too
