Beginners Guide to Getting 1000 Followers the Easy Way!

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

Steemit is a very new social media site when compared to others like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and others alike, with the popularity getting bigger each day, more and more new members are seeing the benefits of the Steemit platform and are joining up all the time. But sometimes struggle to get the attention they want from their posts, so in this Post, I will show you an easy way to get much needed followers so you can reap the rewards from Steemit.

First of all, I would like to welcome any new members who have joined up looking for some help.

As you may be aware, Steemit rewards its users with Steem Based Dollars (SBD) when your posts are upvoted by your peers. With the amount of posts going up, it could be hard to stand out from the crowd. The Key is good, well presented content. Now there is an online editor you can use when creating your post, but I found it much easier to use third party software to do this.

Typora is much like Microsoft word but with a few added extras. When posting on Steemit, it automatically uses markdown styling, but for those who don't know how to use markdown, Typora makes it nice n simple.
Once you are finished typing what you want in your post, you simply highlight the text you want to change and you can make it Bold, Italic, add quotations, change to a different heading size, 1 being the biggest and 6 being the smallest. You can add separators, web links and even add a table if you wanted to compare 2 products for example. It is very easy. Once done, you highlight all the text, go to 'Edit' in the menu bar and select, 'Copy as Markdown', then you should just past it in your post. You will see in the preview, that all the changes you made, are transferred over without having to know how to use markdown styling.

You Should always link in resources you have used in your post. All the images in this post for example have an image source link at the bottom of them, this is so you can be directed to where I got them from. And if you use a white paper or website reference, or recommend software like I have with Typora, make sure that is linked too. This goes a long way to helping curators who will eventually upvote and resteem your posts.

Make sure you use eye catching images and a good title. When people are scrolling through the new posts, the first thing they are going to see is an image and your post title. First impressions is key. If you name your post ''Blog – 2'' with no brief description and no image, most people will just bypass it and ignore it. But if you name your post ''Blog – 2, A trip into the unknown in Kabul, Meeting new faces'' and post an image of what it is you're doing, will attract those people interested in travel to open and read your post. It is that simple.

Finally, don't go overboard with your posts by giving people a 20 page essay, and equally don't make it just one paragraph. The majority of people on the internet like easy to absorb information, so make sure you keep it brief but to the point. On average, my posts end up taking up about 1 ½ to 2 a4 pages of writing and images. This has worked very well for me and I have stuck to it. On occasion I will go a little more in depth with some posts, if they need to be. Never just post up one paragraph and a video or image. If you want to earn SBD you should put some work into your posts.

In a nutshell,

  • Use Typora if you are not familiar with Markdown.
  • Include Links for images and work that is not yours.
  • Eye catching Images with a brief descriptive title.
  • Don't make your post too long or too short.

If you follow those 4 simple steps, you will gain followers, upvotes and resteems very quickly. Don't just start following 10'000 random people in the hopes that they will follow you back, it doesn't work, trust me I tried when I first joined. Only after speaking to various people on the chat rooms did I find the clues to gaining real support from real people. Followers are key to your success on Steemit, as your posts will feature in the feeds and will be some of the first posts they see each day when they log in. they followed you for a reason, so keep them happy by posting good, easy to read content.

One thing I will say though is do not promote your work, your followers will do that with resteems. 9 times out of 10, promotion does not work, so don't pay for it. There are a couple of reputable promoting bots on Steemit, but generally, you spend more than you gain. Let your followers do the promotion for you.

I have been on here since mid September, and after 2 months I gained over 1000 followers. With each new post I put up, that number increases. It will be a very slow start, but after a while, you should gain traction and build up popularity. With that popularity will be upvotes which turn into cold hard cash. There are people on here who earn money just from Steemit. Proof that if your content is good, you will earn from it.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the tips, they are much needed lol.

Congrats! I should post more, and follow the rules you described, as I am mostly commenting and rarely writing articles, and that makes me have very few followers. Thanks a lot for the advices and have a nice day!
