Five Quick Tips to Drastically Improve your Ed Game

So you finally got bit by the eSports bug. After E3's announcement of Dragon Ball Fighters Z, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, and rumors of a new Super Street Fighter V expansion coming around the corner, there has never been a better time to dust off your old copy of Street Fighter V, or pick it up at 50% off during the Steam Sale.

Here are 5 quick tips that have helped me drastically improve my experience getting back into Street Fighter V with the newcomer Ed, and I hope this will help you as well.

  1. Use the 3 Variations of Psycho Shot to Keep your Opponent Guessing
Psycho Spark is performed exclusively with ---> + Medium Punch (MP)
but the Psycho Shot follow up has 3 speed variations:
    • Light Punch (LP) for the slowest speed
    • Medium Punch (MP) for normal/ combo speed, and
    • Hard Punch (HP) for the fastest speed
In this image you can see me use LP Psycho Spark, combined with Ed's amazing dash speed to help close the gap between unsuspecting players. This attack also builds blue meter quickly, for which you will need for the next tip….
  2. Spend your meter on Ex Psycho Uppers
The Ex Psycho Upper is performed by pressing LP+MP+HP simultaneously, and is completely invincible to throws, projectiles and other attacks with the downside of being unsafe on block. Use this move to cover Ed’s weakness to speedy, close range attacks.

In this picture you can see me use the Ex Psycho Upper to punish a throw attempt after a Psycho Flicker ---> blocked Psycho Charge sequence to escape corner pressure. Who Ed's Daddy? Not this guy!

  3. Overcome the Execution Hurdle of Psycho Flicker
Psycho Flicker is performed by pressing any combination of punches 5 times in a row within less than a second. My match video at the bottom of this post will display how this move is effective at dealing relatively safe damage at close range.
Additionally, UltraChen’s tutorial, located above, will provide a detailed explanation of how to master the art of the Psycho Flicker with a controller or joystick. However if you have any questions, my Discord Channel will let me assist you directly.

4. Once They Get Sick of your Ground Game, Knock Them out of the Skies

Ed has a strong variety of anti-airs, but possibly the easiest and best anti-air is his jumping MP. This move has the best corner carry potential, and can lead to a variety of combo options on hit.

5. Psycho Cannon, Use It or Lose It

There is a lot of debate on whether this V-trigger gets the most value as a defensive tool, or a combo starter. However, everybody will agree that you will get no value at all if you are already dead. Just don't feel bad if you waste 2 red meters on this skill, as Ed builds V-gauge so quickly, it’s possible to charge two Psycho Cannons in the same round.

And that's 5 Quick Tips to Drastically Improve your Ed Game. Are you enjoying SFV as much as I am after Ed update? Let me know in the comments what your experiences are.
As a final treat, I will link you the full match that I used for this guide, for a bit of visual aid. Happy Psycho Powering.
