Inspired by historical moments of defiance as well as the recent surge in social activism, “Statements” is a political anthem calling out those who fail to act in the fight against injustice. Instead of writing meaningless statements on social media, we have to take matters into our own hands and fight for those who can’t.

"We don't need a way out"

Meaning “we” don’t need to have an easy, and often populist, way to solve the problems.

It’s up for interpretation but “we” don’t need to listen and act radically against change. The answer is not “a way out”. At the same time the song is later about not just talking in “statements” but actually doing something about problems. Could be we need to stay and be ready to take the challenge and stand up for humanism and kindness.

Empty words are words that lack meaning or conviction. People post #hashtags and posts on social media and twitter after big events such as shootings just to go with the crowd and be a part of the trend. Their words are just a part of a trend and don’t come from their hearts.
