Information Bounty - What is your favorite feature that has been added since you joined? What is the #1 feature you would like them to add? - Paying 1 STEEM Per Qualified Response!

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

I would like to collect a list of all the great features that have been added over the past year, as well as things that users are still wishing were added. I will be paying 1 STEEM per "qualified response" (details below). Each user can respond up to 5 times!

Rules:

  • Reply to this post with your favorite feature that has been added since you joined, or the top feature that you would still like to be added, or both!
  • Users can have up to 5 replies (total). It can be a mix between "favorites" and "want to adds".
  • Each entry should only contain one feature (so users can vote on the ones they agree with).
  • Each reply should make it clear if it is a "favorite" or "want to add" feature.
  • I will pay 1 STEEM per qualified response.
  • If there are duplicates, whoever posted the feature first will get the award.
  • The bounty is open until the payout of this post closes.
  • All payouts will be made within 24 hours of the post closing.

Reminder to vote for witnesses!
The Steem witnesses are the elected leaders of the community that power the blockchain. If you don't know much about witnesses or aren't sure who to vote for, you can check out this Witness Voting Guide. If you think @timcliff is doing a great job as witness, I would really appreciate your vote!

Vote for witnesses here: https://steemit.com/~witnesses

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

Sort Order:

My favorite feature since I joined was the feed page so we can follow others. I can't even imagine it wasn't there when I joined.

I know. Isn't it crazy that just a year ago, there wasn't such thing as following!

I like the drag and drop photo \ links feature in the Reply\Comments.

Tipping - a feature that needs to be implemented more visibly.
A sort of format like youtube's super comments. Creators can be supported by their tight knit audiences and those who support the creators are featured alongside the post.

That's a good one! @klye is actually working on a tipping bot that users will be able to use just by posting a comment to tip. You can read about it here.

Tipping bots have their place, mostly in dealing with non-native tokens.

This needs to be a first party steemit inc. inclusion. Hopefully other explorers like Busy will incorporate.

Agreed.

Another thing I'd like to see added is a way to tag your post with a language or even select which languages you speak on your profile and then organize this information into communities by language. This would make it much easier for non-English speakers to find great content in their native language!

Yes, totally agree!

@timcliff "Favorite" is definitely the resteem feature. Because of that, my posts have gotten out to new users, and I've discovered many for myself. I have a Patreon, and I leverage my Instagram following for almost all my pledged patrons, but discoverability is awful on that platform. Steemit has remarkable discoverability. You can come here with no following or internet presence, make money and gain a following with quality art, music and writing. That's one of the first things I tell new users.

Great answers! Can you split them up into 2 replies?

What I would like to see is a Folder or Tab for post\blogs by the actual account holder so everyone can easily view your work in ONE location instead of scrolling through all the resteems.

Splitting blogs and Resteems - yes, definitely a popular one!

A feature that I would like to see added is similar to a resteem, but a "favorites" section on your profile where you can save a post as a favorite so it doesn't fall down your feed as you post more. Meant for the few posts that you want to go back to weeks or months later.

Yes :)

Time it takes to read a post
What I will love to see in Steemit is an approximate amount of time an article takes to be read, It could be next to the title or near the place where tells how many time ago the post has been published.
I have taken the idea from another platform : medium and I don't think the implementation is difficult, maybe an average time an user stays in a post or how many words there are( This more a technical staff).

Hmm, good one - that would be nice!

My favourite feature is the multiple nesting on the comments. Great feature that allows for conversations.

I agree - that is a great one!

Please Add:
I think it's important that everyone knows what their %voting power is at all times. This will encourage people to curate when they see it high, and discourage them from frivolously mass voting.
The mechanics behind this feature are extremely useful and unique only to steemit. New members can take a long time to figure it out.

This is in the pipeline. Intuitive and colorful metrics are planned so that users can have more information about their account than is currently available. No more need to visit steemdb all the time.

Yes, good one!

Communities - The feature that will make or break steem
As more users join - the congestion of the hot and trending pages is real. Quality posts do not stay relevant for long enough and there is no hope at all for going through old posts in a community. There needs to be a 'best of this week' 'best of this month' type setting.

Excellent one!

A 'want to add' would be an easier way to show new followers instead of having to scroll through everyone in the follows list.

There is actually a website steemdb.com (developed by @jesta) that shows this:
https://steemdb.com/@maninayton/followers

Doh! (Homer Simpson moment)

More control over your blog/profile - a much needed feature

Now I don't think this should include too much style and customization - this could get too messy (like think myspace). There should be more areas for creators to set things up how they like such as:

  • featured posts
  • series
  • separate resteems

Good one!

it would be great if we could view our posts on our personal blog wall by month, instead of scrolling down all the way.

Awesome Suggestion!!

Thank you!

(favorite) the limitation of 4 posts per day has been removed

Oh, yea - I already forgot about that one :) Good one!

I would say my absolute favourite feature is post reward splitting. The power that feature puts in the hands of devs is unbelievable.

That is true!

Direct messaging. I'd be very happy if it could eventually evolve to encrypted so messages are private.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

Agreed - that would be huge! Busy.org actually does already have this though. If this is a wanted feature, you should check it out. Both steemit.com and busy.org are connected to the same Steem blockchain, so whatever gets posted on one site will automatically show up and be viewable on the other.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that! Thanks

( Want to Add )

Events ( See, Find, Who is going, Might Attend, Interested But Cannot Go, Attending, Hosting, Event Sponsor, Event Vendor, Alternative Places and Times)

That would be cool!

I would like to see a referral program whereby current members could be rewarded for bringing in new members. @froghollow

One of my top ones as well :)

With a reward splitting feature I think it is totally doable by the way.

One last idea that I had before the post closes. The ability to collaborate on an article with one or more people. You'd be able to work on it with others in real-time (like Google Drive) and split the payout reward accordingly.

Good one!

Being able to play videos or long vlogs on a subpage while being able to view and like other content would be nice. what do you think, @timcliff?

Good one. Recommendations on similar content would be an awesome way to increase user engagement with the site!

I know this is late, but hope it gets considered.
Add a feature to address the flaws with the flagging system.

While it's a major benefit to allow flagging, there are still some things that can be abused. I suggest implementing a feature to allow the community to dispute flags. This is how it could work.

Flagger chooses a reason for flagging. Everyone can see this reason. The community may choose to dispute or affirm the flag. Flag affirmation votes are weighted by REPUTATION, not power.

Proper disputes or affirmations can work just like curation to earn steem and reputation.

Add:
How about an easy way to select and crop the thumbnail image?

Yes! :)

im eager to see a steem market place. I just know thats gonna be incredible or artists like myself.

Me too! :)

Good one, me too

Want- Ability to delegate sp from the site itself

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

Hi Tim,
I wonder if steemit could adopt some of the features of busy, so that the value of steem is displayed and estimated amount in dollars is more up to date? I also like the option to mail another user directly. Thanks 🙂

Just thought of another feature I would love;
Post scheduling. Wordpress allows this and it's insanely cool.
With Steemit, of course it would be open to abuse, so it could come with some limitations.

Yes, I would like to have this as well!

It would definitely be abused. Perhaps one could only schedule a certain amount of posts.
Are you in touch with the devs Tim? I really hope they are paying attention to the communities dreams for Steemit.

I do discuss things with the dev team. They are well aware of the community's wants and needs. They set their own priorities - they don't always agree on what is "most important" - but they do listen. Many of the things that have been implemented / put into effect have been because of input from the community.

Ahh that's great to hear! Cheers

Want - A profile with more information like interests/hobbies etc.

Want - Separate tab for mentions

A new whitepaper! Or compiled, easy to understand status :)

Want to add: Make the mobile site less of a data drain on mobile devices. I sometimes and in low connectivity areas. I can tell you twitter, reddit, facebook, and other sites come up fine, even in those bad areas, but steemit struggles to come up sometimes. This may not be feasible, as I understand this is still a new site with other priorities, but I thought I would throw it out there.

I believe they are working on something along these lines.

Congratulations @timcliff!
Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following category:

  • Comments - Ranked 1 with 151 comments

Cool! Thanks for letting me know :)

Please add:
The ability to follow your favorite tags and ignore the rest, as well as a place to view the results.
This would work much like following your favorite creators, and the home tab.

Yes. I think the communities feature that they are working on is intended to solve this need.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

( WANT TO ADD) I would love to see steemit add its own video service/platform. I know its being worked on, can't wait!!

Agreed - that will be huge!

Want to add: subscribe to comments. It's not cool to hit F5 in 2017. ATM you get notifications just for replies to your own posts and comments.

Top Features I like that has been added (1): No comment nesting limit - that helps a lot

Top Features I like that has been added (2): single payout period - much better as the two before

( Want to Add )

Filter their news feed by keywords, user, post tags, and more. You can either set a range, order, select by or remove by items dynamically. Default main setting. Filter none setting or button. Savable different settings.

Also like to add:

  • Filters for type of language both main feed and others so if you don't speak a language.
  • Maybe do language tags or metadata ... so bilingual or translation posts can be done.

Want - Ability to edit posts after payout

I also really like the new (or new to me) feature in creating posts where you can just upload from your computer, rather than having to use a tool like postimage which is super time consuming.

Resteeming is one of my favorite features! Someone just resteemed for the first time today and it just feels great to know someone thinks enough of your work to share it with their followers.

I think one of my favorite aspects has been the voluntary changes in voting. While I did lose money when flagged for the "experiment", it was very meaningful to see that I could actually see myself giving "cents" to people while voting. I think it also helped boost participation on steemit.

I agree 100%. I think the 'experiment' was a game changer for Steemit.

Want to add: I would like to see how much my upvote is worth on something else's posts. I have seen that you can go to a separate website to see it, but I would like to be integrated into steemit if possible. It can give those of us that have low amounts right now something to chase after.

Want to add: Lowering velocity of SP regeneration from 40 full weighted votes per day to 5 per day.

As I showed for Golos network, regular monthly active users cast only 3 votes a day. 40+ votes are normal for bots and super-curators which sit on Steem 24/7. So reducing SP regeneration will shift reward balance toward to regular users with normal life (aka work, studying, eating, showering, etc.). Regular Steem users will note that their votes become 5 times greater. And that's good both for curation quality and new users
involvement.

Want to add: Direct rewarding bot (not tipping!), like in Golos.

(Like to ADD)

Top 10 or Favorite Followers Tab so I can easily access their blog without going through the massive list of names in the follwing tab.

Notifications was a nice addition, I would like to see follow/mute tags. In my opinion that's how we can create communities in an easy way, I don't like the propositions of moderation because that's what we have the votes and mute button for.

Hi. Here is your comment that contributed to the bounty post. Sending the STEEM back :)
Really appreciate your honesty though!!

Must have been buried, I missed it. Thanks!

My favorite feature is that you can choose 3options before posting an article whether declining a payout, 50%sbd/50%sp and Full power-up. :)

Want - Ability to bookmark/save posts on the site

This is a good one, but someone already listed it. It won't count towards your 5, so if you can think of one more you can still achieve the maximum 5 STEEM from the bounty :)

Want to add: Hottest posts for the week and hottests posts for the month. Right now, if you don't see a popular post within 12 or 24 hours, you may never see it, even if it contained useful information or was overall a good post.

(favorite) Also like that you can gift\send SP (steem power) to another steemit account instead of sending them STEEM and having them power it up which is an extra step not needed.

Agreed!

Actually it is possible already to power up your Steems to other account.

I forgot to put the (favorite) label on the post. Fixing now.

Steem Powered Debit Card w/no fees.

Is that even possible? :)

(scratches head)

Hmmm...well if the system can calculate the total amount of SP and adjust the power down rate to payoff the CC debt allotment before it turns into liquid STEEM just before the 7day withdraw.

Somebody could come up with the coding...

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

More potential features I've been thinking about recently:
The ability to post polls.
The ability to subscribe to (all comments on) a post. - This could really help promote discussion.

Being able to make favorite tags though, is huge for me, especially for unique tags for initiatives, competitions, etc

Anyway, I love this post. Some fantastic ideas and it really shows how much potential Steemit has.

"Want to add", and this may be silly, just notifications. Long ago, @sirwinchester made this Apple Watch notifications proposal and it's probably still my favorite Steemit post to date. https://steemit.com/steemit/@sirwinchester/steemit-apple-watch-app-design-proposal
I have an Apple Watch and I love it. Having the ability to get Steemit upvote and resteem notifications on my wrist would be incredible!

haha, nice.

Top Features I like that has been added (3): Image drag and drop capability

I want (2) - even announced with HF17/18 still the edit older posts options is not working - would be good

I want (1) - real notification within steemit.com if someone tags / mention me - this goes inline with the messaging system!

I definitely don't want to be a nag, but I never got my Steem from the last contest. I'm sure it was a simple oversight, as there were a ton of responses.

That's what I really like about Steem: it assists people in related industries award bonuses to their communities, like a personal trainer randomly awarding a reader with some Steem.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

Hi @steemquestions - don't worry, that contest has still not closed yet. As stated in the post, it will continue until the post payout and then I will make all payouts within 24 hours of the post closing.

That's what I really like about Steem: it assists people in related industries award bonuses to their communities, like a personal trainer randomly awarding a reader with some Steem.

Good one :)

Well then that was my oversight! My error!

( Want to Add )

Hello my friend
Please, I want to speak frankly
When the registration was done here it was just an experience that's 3 months old
But after a month I met many people in different fields, even though I did not know anyone from my country and I do not know if there are users from Egypt here
I had a problem and talked to friends here and I was really supportive and helping all the love and appreciation
Answer your post

Features
This network differs from other sites
Respect for privacy
Easy to use
Helps great postast owners
Its system is not controlled by anyone it is a public property of all users

Cool, thanks for your response!

What is your favorite feature that has been added since you joined?

Not having to navigate to respond to comments from notifications

What is the #1 feature you would like them to add? -

User-friendly home and profile pages

Good ones. If you want to get awarded 1 STEEM each though, please split these up into 2 separate responses.

(want to add) notification for followers

That would be nice!

It is already developed in Golos network with a bot named @robot. He sends you 0.001 SP whenever someone decides to follow you or write your nickname in a post or a comment.

Hard to say. What features have been added since I joined on April Fools Day and what I have I stumbled onto that may have been here since Day One but, as a noob, I was just not aware of?

I made it to minnow a few days ago and suddenly had a slider. Thought it was a new feature but it was just new to me.

Really looking forward to communities, even though I have no idea what the implementation might look like.

Wish list:
Not sure if it can already be done, but when following someone and looking for a specific post they may have made long ago, but they have hundreds of posts. How does someone sort through just that person's posts without needing to scroll through all of them from the top?

I agree. It is not easy. The best way I know of is the keyword "Search" at the top. Their post will still be burred in the search results along with lots of others, but a lot of times it is at least easier than going back 4 months in someone's blog post.

I think a great add on will be more linear voting curves. With this, I believe steem power will be used more...creating more participation, and an overall higher steem price.

Want to Add: more tags. I do like that Instagram uses a lot of tags. It helps people connect over super-niche topics.

Want to Add: Return the Active category. I liked it because it showed which posts had active conversations going. I used that category more than any other.

My favorite feature is the ability to delegate steem power
The feature I cant wait to see is the community feature!
:)

Want to Add: Ability to edit posts after the payout period.

Want to add: More digits in reward sums representation for minnows.

i.e. $0.0039 instead of $0.00. Because $0.00 looks tremendously disappointing, believe me).

Would be great to have a filter/sort functionality on the home page.

Yes, that would be nice!

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

My favorite added feature since I joined is the rise in STEEM price! I know that's not a feature, but I'm pretty new so I haven't noticed any real new features in my short time.

My most wished for feature is video.

I'll count it :)

My most wished for feature is video.

This one was already listed.

I know it was listed, and I don't want credit for it, but I just thought this one is important enough to list again :)

Favorites: The SteemTrail communities. From my view, they have really increased connections and engagement among people, around specific topics.

Favorites: the View count. The low view counts are brutal and depressing. But they are real - and when they grow lots higher, we will know we've achieved something.

Want to Add: Communities. When they come online, that's when I'll be able to recruit more people to Steemit. They will have a place to focus and engage.

I would love to see some kind of bookmark option, so that we can reread some specific posts, especially like the videos. It might not sound very useful right now, but as more people will join and create quality content, it will definitely be needed.

For downvoting, the downvoter must give a valid comment. The affected poster should get a chance to appeal against the downvoting. Maybe like witness we can have a small official group for this. The reason I say this, is because downvotes can really demotivate people, especially who work honestly and still get downvoted.

Unlimited comment nesting - my favorite feature added
Why this was not around at the beginning is a mystery to me. The conversations and community the comments foster needs to be encouraged.
I would even say payouts for comments should be inflated some percentage.

Good one, but @maninayton beat you to it ;)

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

I'm new, whats comment nesting

Unlimited comment replies. Used to limit it to 6 or something

A private cloud for your own photos and videos connected to your drop down menu would be a nice touch, tho an expensive undertaking, and like I said before, the flexibility of the Submit a Story area is robust, Thanks a bunch Tim!

I think that the "promoted" section should be gotten rid of. There shouldn't be a way to pay to get your content to the top of a page, only content that is of true quality should be up there.

At least currently, it isn't at the top of the page - it is in its own section. Users only view the promoted content if they want to.

Having some sort of revenue model though to use STEEM/SBD to pay for things (besides cashing out, or sending it to a merchant who will cash it out) is good for the long-term growth of the currency.

Yeah, you're right. I agree.

Want to add: I would like a way if possible to create something like a YouTube playlist, except for steemit it would be a post-list. For example, if someone wanted to group all their bitcoin posts, or their photos of flowers, or their tutorial posts in one post-list, they could do so. Right now, if you have multiple posts that fit together, it's difficult to point that out.

That's a really cool idea!

Want to add: I would like the preview photo of posts in our feeds to be larger or have the option to be larger. Right now, I think they are a little too small.

I don't see users suggesting these ideas:

  1. When a curator upvotes, he/she can also choose whether an sbd or steem power for his/her reward.
  2. Changing the icon/thumbnail of the upvote button or when you hit the upvote, a list of emojis will pop-up where you can choose(i.e happy sad angry etc) but does not affect the voting power nor affecting a change on the author's potential reward.
  3. Publishing an article with 2 or more authors(probably a group) thru tagging other author/authors and where the reward will be divided equally (reward ÷ #of authors).

Thats All! Happy Steeming!

(Want to ADD) Would love to see Steem dollars use like cash for day to day transactions,

Want to add: Use curators for tagging.

Firstly an author chooses tags for his post. Then curators can approve them by upvoting or downvote them out. Each curator can upvote or downvote each tag in a post and submit his own tag. The more finalized tags has been predicted by a curator correctly the more his curation reward is.

I think that is along the lines of what they are going to create with communities.

Also, instead of the whole list of tags & topics by trending showing, it would be great to have a filter to find niche content. Instead of clicking 'show more'

Want these features

  • Separate tab for mentions
  • Ability to delegate sp from the site itself
  • Ability to edit posts after payout
  • Ability to bookmark posts on the site

Great ones! Can you split them up into separate responses though? I'll pay 1 STEEM per response :)

Okay..no problem

Favorite feature:

  • Drag & Drop images. Like. Holy s**t!

steemevolution.jpg

Wishlist features:

  • Video streaming with (pseudo-anonymous?) STEEM "tipping" - for vloggers, cam girls, gamers etc
  • Android app that focuses on images. - Imagine getting paid to be a narcissist. Instagram on acid.
  • Favorite tags appearing on top of the list. A quick and easy way to increase community cohesion and help smaller niches.
  • Homepage bigger, chunkier, more graphical
  • Reverse Reward post option - A bounty is set and the OP divvies it out among respondents.

Good ones! If you could split these up into separate responses though, the bounty will pay 1 STEEM per reply (up to a maximum of 5 per user).

Cheers but it's fine. I'm not chasing money, just really happy to see people pushing for progress. Steemit has the potential to explode into the mainstream but it seems to appeal more to the fickle millennials.

Those fickle millennials are going to create a virtual paradise. I'm a gen x coming along for the ride :)

Also like the drop down menu on your profile\ avatar with added tabs like wallet settings blog comments replies change password log out.

If possible, would be good to have a couple of extra tags while posting, maybe it may increase as you advance. or vice versa.

I would like some kind of folder system for posts on my home page along with a filter system similar of those in email clients to direct certain tags to certain folders.

Want To Add

The ability to pin our own fav post to the top of our blog list so when a person comes to our page, they might see a post that we felt was most important pinned at the top of our blogs.

Another idea that I have is for the comment section to be organized by number of votes, rather than amount of money generated. If one or two guys with big voting power upvote one comment, giving it a value of $5, for example, and 10 small accounts upvote a different comment, giving it a value of $0.75, it means that more people liked the other comment! In this situation, the $0.75 comment should be over the $5 comment.

It would be cool, but unfortunately it is open to 'sibyl' attacks. Users can cheaply create hundreds (or thousands) of accounts and brute force comments to the top even though they don't have much engagement. It is much more difficult (expensive) to try and do this by acquiring Steem Power. If users want to buy thousands of dollars of SP in order to do this, then that in a way is a good thing because it helps drive up the price of STEEM which allows the system to pay users more in content rewards.

Wish to add:
My biggest gripe as a new user is that the list of tags is on the page PRIOR to the page where you actually need it; the editor page! It would be real convenient to be able to see the popular tags WHILE in the editor window so that you can choose one from the list rather than try to make up one of your own.

Good suggestion

I love that you have the option to 'follow' within the followers list !

That's a no brainer for me, Video and photo upload system of some type, I know its in the works! Thanks for your post!

Good one, but @liberian beat you to it as far as the video platform. I think photo upload is already there, yes?

Photo upload? we use links from other website holders yes, but I meant like a private cloud for your own photos and videos connected to your drop down menu, all good thanks alot for your reply! Oh wow, I didn't see his post lol so many comments at once, nice..My favorite thing on here is the Myspace like format for posting so far, its flexible!

Photo upload? we use links from other website holders yes, but I meant like a private cloud for your own photos and videos connected to your drop down menu

I see. Ok, I'll consider this a unique request :)

My favorite thing on here is the Myspace like format for posting so far, its flexible!

You should add this as a separate reply to the main post.
