The type of content that gets rewarded is entirely up to the community of voters. Hopefully over time as more people join, the types of content that gets rewarded will diversify.

Today is my first day on steemit. Thanks for the tips @timcliff . Do you think @steemit will monetize with ad's in the future? It took @facebook a few years to monetize its site with ad's. The best thing about steemit is users make money for their own content. If we own our content, we should also decide if we want ad's to be published alongside our content.
