You're right on about getting to the promised land --- as that journey through the desert wasn't easy for them either. However they had a large vision as does Steemit. Steemit is going to be one of the largest content creation and distribution networks owned and controlled by their users in the world. Steemit has only scratched the surface of what's possible.
