Please Do Not Advertise Steemit Competitors On Steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago

So far this has not been an issue as there have been no competitors to this site and it still remains the only viable option for a blockchain social media site. But, at some point, others will come. And I have no problem with people using them (I am on the side of the content creators and will be trying them all myself), but please do not advertise or promote them on this site. Why? Because you are, in a way, being paid in steem to post here and it is not cool to use that platform to showcase another as you pocket the steem.

Think of it as you work in Second Cup and tell people they have better coffee at Starbucks. You probably wouldn't have your job for too long. There are lots of other crypto products that work in tangent with steemit but if it is a direct competitor I ask you do not parade it here.

It is your account, so of course you can do whatever you like, just asking :)

Firstly from reading the title i was coming here to give you a little bit of hate (not much just some friendly advice and my oppinion).

But after i read what you had to say you convinced me and i am 100% on your side.

But humans have an instict to gain.
they are ready to do anything for fame
only if they can get some money out of it
i know this rhyme is really shit

Friendly disagreement is welcome when it comes to discussing the platform if it arises. And yeah people will take opportunities if they come, I'm not judging anyone. :)

You...

you are a smart man/woman

¯_(ツ)_/¯ idk its 2018 you gotta be careful

I've come across a couple of competitors to Steemit. Neither are big threats really. There's minds.com and ONO. ONO hasn't launched yet but mind.com has, and has about 2 million users. They're at the testnet stage but their currency isn't useful for any real purpose yet.

Both have been advertised on Steemit already which I find a bit odd. There's one guy who has actually created a DTube series where he talks about Steemit alternatives... it's odd that he chose this topic.

Right now EOS , seems like a potential competitor. And look what @ned has to say about that

And yeah, welcome back man

Thanks :).

Yeah I read that, good to see his confidence for the product.

I loved that also
That's how you defend your baby

yeah, I brought this up a few weeks ago with the ono shilling. I understand people are excited, I understand that many here have interests in EOS but, at least decline payout.

Am with you too, I think you are right.

yes, I really agree with your opinion @ whatageek, "Please Do Not Advertise Steemit Competitors On Steemit". I do not think anyone else has the right to use ads or try to compete with Steemit, because they do not have a great chance to compete with Steemit. but in my opinion, it will never happen, because Steemit is now much developed. thank you...

Okay I havn't fully resolved the issue in my mind. I was discussing it with @tarazkp a couple of weeks ago and I was saying to him that if a new platform comes along then should I not be a part of that platform and promote steemit there.
Then in reverse if people from that platform come knocking here, then should I tell them the opposite.........

Please keep in mind that I am still in process of forming a solid opinion on this matter. On one hand it seems that steemit can gain more in terms of long term sustainability by collaborating with users if other platforms. While on the other we might loose people to the other platform while doing it.

Similarly on one hand we have the advantage of being the first in this space and have this as a huge advantage. Then on the other hand being first makes it more probable that newer platforms might get from steemit then they can give back to steemit. Then again in long term this will eventually balance out as other platforms mature.

I think, to me, it comes down if a platform can work with steemit or compete with it. Like Twitter I feel is a great companion to steemit and the two can work together. And I have no problems with supporting users who happen to use other platforms, just rave reviews of that platform on this platform. It is not black and white of course and I'm not judging anyone, just throwing it out there.

Man this is good. Usually people just keep these things to themselves and other such as me are not able to learn about the main issue. So thanks for sharing it here.
Yeah I can understand that because raving about anything is a red signal.

alternatives already exist.. and they suck.

yep

Steemit is a great social network.
It's very beautiful funny place.
Steemit name very beautiful.

but please do not advertise or promote them on this site. Why? Because you are, in a way, being paid in steem to post here and it is not cool to use that platform to showcase another as you pocket the steem.

This i totally agree with you on, it’s a big slap on On faces advertising other blockchain on this platform and imo other crypto currency, this is steem blockchain, this is steemit and all here is about steem. Thanks for this awareness . You’re much appreciated

Lol... But that actually makes a lot of sense. More like a silent rule. I can just imagine working at Nike, and I come in to work, dressed from head to toe in Adidas.

lol

You have a fair point. Nevertheless I was hoping to see some news about upcoming Steemit competitors. As well as reviews once those competitors are launched. I still think some Steemonians will post about it. But still I'm curious to know, which website or medium should I follow to notice any new competitors?

Yeah I hear you, I click on those posts too. I use google news myself to search. social media cryptocurrency and stuff like that.

being paid in steem to post here and it is not cool to use that platform to showcase another as you pocket the steem.

Lol, true

If it's not just plain advertising but sparks a valid discussion or comparison, I wouldn't mind, but if it's just "hey look at this" that would really be wrong.
Especially since I don't see any value in posts that are just advertisement anyway.

Greetings from Venezuela. I invite you to take a look at my first OpenMic post and support me: D and thanks in advance
