Will you vote for me? Yes or No?

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

When we post aren't we all asking for a vote?  Oh, I know some of you just love to write.  Some of you have a message to spread.  Some of you might be willing to admit the financial aspect of this experiment is at least part of the reason you are here.  I admit it.

In our culture begging is frowned upon, so sometimes we come up with interesting ways to pretend we are performing a service or providing a product.  Straight up asking for a vote, a follow and a resteem is bad.  Throwing some meaningless content into post and hoping for votes is acceptable.  I don't mean to poke you in the ego, I'm just saying there is a lot already out there to read on the Internet.

Our posts are a way of presenting ourselves for the votes...  The votes are the way to distribute the Steem.  Steem is the asset we are speculating on.   It doesn't make very good marketing though.

Come to SteemIt, where we distribute Steem in hopes at some point it will hold great value.

Isn't that exactly what we are doing?  Yes or No...  Please answer in the comments.

*it was just meant to be thought provoking, why are you really here?

Came for Whatsup art, found insightful post instead.

haha this guy. I have to agree.

The vast majority of people here have making some money as one of their objectives. For some, it's the primary objective. For others it's secondary or tertiary. But if people really just want to write, they could already do so on FB, blogspot, Reddit, or a zillion other sites.

Meh. I'm having lots of fun here, and I'm making far less than minimum wage doing so. I rather doubt that blogging at Steemit will lead to early retirement in the south of France.

Hi @whatsup
Although I enjoy steemit, I would not have started if it was not for the money, that is how steemit was sold to me, "write something and get paid", nice post.

I can't remember if I knew about the money, I "heard" privacy and censorship resistant.
Being disappointed in the privacy side after signing up via Facebook, I stayed because it is interesting and yes for the money. ;)

I'm not sure where you're going with this... In the real world, information, time and attention from people has a lot of value. For the moment, social media platforms are centralized and users don't benefit from the value that they are creating. This is the reason why people should join Steem.
Steem isn't just some magical coin that we speculate on. It is a functional cryptocurrency, which is already a lot compared to some other coins given how the blockchain technology is new.
Companies will want to pay for post promotion and advertisement, just like they do on other centralized central media platforms, but the difference is that it's the users that will be compensated. As I said, information has value; attention from people has value; that is why posts deserve upvotes, while simple begging doesn't...
"Throwing some meaningless content into post and hoping for votes is acceptable" If someone upvotes a comment/a post then that post does not have meaningless content to the upvoter! they could've upvoted anything else, including themselves, but they chose to upvote that post. There is nothing wrong with posting some content and hoping for someone to appreciate it imho.

Sometimes I just like to make awkward observations, and I don't even have an agenda. I wasn't going anywhere with it. :)

I agree there is nothing wrong with hoping for upvotes and publishing content. Am I not here with you? :)

haha I see :D well it was definitely thought provoking, which clearly was your intention I suppose

To get money. Which I've done. And realised it will never be enougb. And still staying, for the special few. Finding people who think the same (almost) priceless.

Well I think the most telling is that when you said that begging is frowned upon therefore we come up with creative ways to "dance for a dollar". We do all post for money on steemit. The less people make, the more those people leave and do something else that is gratifying in other ways. Some people would rather 100 likes than $0.01 payout. Can you blame them? Steemit has been a creative outlet for me. I make way more money creatively elsewhere, but I still strive for more monetary success on this platform. I'm conflicted at times lol

So honest, I love it. I could say the exact same thing! ;) It sometimes reminds me of the phrase... Sing for your supper.

I'm here coz I thought you were asking for support and I'm all the way gonna upvote for you in becoming a witness. :-)

But kidding aside, I'm here coz my friend encourage me to join Steemit and learn about blockchain. :-)

there is enough for everybody :) spread the love.

I think people's ego's need a "hot poker" poking, personally.

...right in the mind's eye sockets...

Yes. But I'm here for both I suppose. I love that I'm earning crypty through effort instead of just straight up having to buy it (and therefor stand to lose money instead of gain it). But I also like that I'm sharing thoughts and people respond to that, regardless of the monetary value.

I enjoy it too. I also am learning and earning and improving my communication skills. It's just funny that even saying that people might have monetary goals tends to upset people. lol

trust me, each and every person on this platform has monetary goals .... it's the whole reason for being here or moving here from other platforms. It might just not be the only reason someone is here.

I admit I came here for the money, but discovered it is a place where you can say what you want, and I have pretty strong opinions on many things and it feels good to have someone to share them with. (Sometimes I tend to rant, actually). Also, being able to talk to so many people is quite fun...

I came to the conclusion that I started on Steemit with monetary considerations as my primary motivation. Since, I stay because I enjoy it. There is more of a sense of community here than most any other social media.

Funny enough, it actually is the monetary aspect that holds the community together. We are all 'giving' each other rewards and in some cases, we are able to help our new found friends out. Take the example of @richq11 who is about to be evicted and sent off to the State Home for the elderly, his call for help was met with hundreds of dollars worth of aid. I hope it continues for him and he can stay out of the clutches of the state.

Steemit is a strange place, but I enjoy participating.

It is an amazing experiment. I love people watching and it always adds an interesting element when there is money involved.

I enjoy participating also. I have always enjoyed strange places.

It may be more like this.

Here's what I think about F4F and V4V. People come from the Facebook and Twitter world with that mindset engraved in their brain. It's not their fault, they were conditioned to "Like" each other for years! It's a worthless notion that helps the marketers, not the users. Can't expect them to change their habits overnight. Sooner or later they will learn (the hard way) that they must start to think for themselves and write original content for the value that represents them, or else, they'll be stuck at the bottom of the ladder and earning zero STEEM.

I think that the financial aspect is a part of why each of us are here, but does that make us beggars for posting? I don't think so. I think we are utilizing a resource to grow our finances while contributing to a community we believe in. I'm not sure that people who think of the money first are likely to be successful.
Also, the same could be said for other platforms....YouTube immediately comes to mind. Do we see PewDePie or John and Hank Green as beggars or people who produce much loved monitized content? I'm sure the financial aspect is important for them, but do they focus on that or creating quality content?

I'm here for the lack of censorship. Block Chain framework is the best defense against centralized state power and censorship by big corporations such as Google. In fact, I wasn't even aware out of the gate that Steemit was profitable. It certainly wasn't what led me here, and now that I'm aware of it I also know that it is a ponzi scheme.

You may still be able to get some money, but each wave of users will further reduce that possibility. This platform is not a fair money making entity, because it over values Steem Power, translating it into Voting Power for the few who have it. It is a game of masters & slaves, and you are very likely one of the slaves.

However, as a censorship free platform it works just fine. Any money I get while blogging is for me just a bonus.

No long explanations, just a simple YES.

Steemit is kinda boring fo me now...because i am not making money. Maybe one day will be entertaining and i would give a rats ass about these posts :P

It seems that 99 % of steemit users got interest in this platform because of the opportunity to earn and only then , they learned the ways of doing that. Some of them spam, some beg, some write low quality content, some mediocre content , and finally some people provide high quality.
Personally i don't care if someone is begging or not and i don't think there should be rules about. Beggers are getting ignored by smart people, so they in the long run they have no chance. On the other hand spammers and low quality is a problem and there is a long way to make it work.

Im primarily here to spread a message, the message that crypto-currency can be useful to humanity and not just a get-rich-quick scheme. My preferrd coins due to this belief are #gridcoin, #solarcoin and of course #steem.

I do add the other odd bits of content to get some financial rewards, but only things I think are valuable.

@whatsup,
Two months ago one of my good friend told me about STEEMIT! I was at FaceBook and I was promoting sh!t like revshares and few other investment sh!t at that moment! When that friend told me about STEEMIT I have decided to join it and do the promotions here! That was my solid purpose to join with this platform!
But I understood this is something powerful than what I was thinking... And I have no chance yet to add STEEM to power up. Coz last bubble made me poor, and yeah I won't lie anyone! This platform is helping me to give a small backup for my current financial troubles as well.
To earn a decent amount from upvotes, I have 2 ways, posting my own or commenting. I hate to write long posts and sometimes my English is not enough to do that! So better try commenting! But very stressful! Have to read a lot of stuffs ;) But this is decent if we provide some inspirations for the author!
Personally I am respecting the way you are thinking!

(My voting power is still regenerating, therefore please allow me five more days to provide 100% upvotes for your posts)

Cheers~

Yes you are correct.😁😁

i follwed you pls follow me back :)

guess we know why this person 👆 is here.

At least she was shamelessly straightforward with her demands...

Exactly - I appreciate brutal honesty sometimes.

Don't know what exactly to say
but come to think of it made me smile a bit

and ya at somepoint steemit will definitely be a part of great value

Let me love let me love you

thought provoking yeah i am here

I joined because it was a new social media platform and I saw massive potential, I always thought it is great to get in early with these type of things. I have also always been interested in cryptocurrency but too scared and confused by it to take the leap, plus didn't have the cash to potentially lose investing. This was by far the easiest and most encouraging way to get in. The rewards are a massive incentive to keep posting. I think it's a good cycle.

“it was just meant to be thought provoking, why are you really here?”

I’m going to take this in the literal sense as in “why am I here reading your blog post” because simply it’s a rather strange one indeed lol.

I’ve seen your comments everywhere. As I do over time when I see comments popping up all over the place from the same person I came to check out what they blog about. I was reading one of klye blog about that one “drawing” contest he is having. I admit I was looking for a good laugh at 4 am and I figured his comment sections at some point due to the contest was going be just gold.

That is when I noticed your drawing and I finally thought I should read some of your blogs.

You’re welcome for this awkward silence I have created between the two of us on why I check out your blogs. Hehehe
