In gratitude for the new seven day payout windowsteemCreated with Sketch.

I hope to post a picture later today of my Steemit voting notebook. When I do, you will notice a big gap in my voting between April 3rd and April 6th. I did absolutely nothing on Steemit for two whole days.

Then I came back and checked my wantwiserupvote tag, and was able to upvote four minnow articles. One of those articles had been live for three days by the time I favored it with my upvote.

This made me grateful for the seven day payout window. In the "old days," a post payed out around 24 hours after its last substantial upvote. Then it would pay out again thirty days later if it collected any more upvotes. Practically this meant that you had a little over a 24 hour window of time to upvote a post in time for the first payout. Now you have seven days. This means that if I promise to consider upvoting a post with a certain tag on it and I don't get to it for a couple days, it's OK.

With that said, as much as possible I still want to make a point to post something at least once a day to keep my payout pipeline built up. About a week from now I'll receive no payouts for two days in a row just because I didn't post anything. Oh well, that's going to happen from time to time. Hopefully not too much.

Anyone else finding the new payout system will actually work out better for you? If so, why?

I think it will be much better from now on that we've hit the 7 day mark since hardfork18, yes it does give you more time to earn on your work but I think the fact your article will be lost down the feed within a few hours does make it a little obsolete, ergo we need communities to keep the articles visible for longer

I admit my application is rather niche. I do make a point to read all the articles tagged with wantwiserupvote but there are days when... let's just say getting on Steemit is low on the priority list (LOL).

Good day how does the voting system work and how do dey determine the amount a post is worth?

That's a very good question. I don't know too much about how it works technically. However, it's set up to allow for 40 full strength votes a day. If you have a slider (need around 400 SP for that) you can divide up your votes further. If you vote more than 40 full strength per day then you start losing voting power and you have to stop voting for several days to allow it to recover. How much value your vote adds to a post is determined by how much SP you have. The more SP you have, the more your upvote is worth. If you have a lot of SP, like 200,000 or more, you're considered a "whale" because your upvote is valuable and sought after. As you can imagine whales have a lot of power to influence the content on Steemit.

There are lots of articles posted on Steemit explaining all parts of this in greater detail, so do look around. I would especially pay attention to info coming from the biggest Steemit whales, which you can look up on http://steemwhales.com/.

Now I get it. And am cool with the 7days.
Thanks for the explanation

Interesting... you keep track of every upvote in a notebook?

What's the purpose of that? I can guess, but I'd love to hear you tell me in your own words.

It has to do with being conscious about upvoting the work of small minnows. Steemit is set up for each user to be able to make 40 full strength upvotes a day (and still keep to 100% voting power). I've decided to allocate these 40 votes to ten for me, fifteen for other content I come across and like, and fifteen for small minnows (those whose wallets contain less than 2,000 SP). I keep track of how many votes I make in each of those categories in a notebook so that I know I'm meeting my voting objectives.

More details can be found in this post, this post, and this post.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Wow, that's awesome. I might have to try and use some of your methods once I've got a bit more SP under my belt. Thanks!

Actually, I would encourage you to start now, before you get big. It's about establishing good whale habits now and then just continuing with them as you grow. I actually have less SP than you do, but thinking ahead :)

haha OK! You got me. I'm gonna start using this method too. Future whales unite :-D

Yes! Hey, if you want, feel free to check out my wantwiserupvote tag and you too can upvote those posts if you'd like. My rules for people using the tag is 1., one post a day, 2., only for people with less than 2,000 SP, 3., nothing NSFW, and 4., respect basic English paragraphing, spelling and grammar rules. Please don't upvote any posts whose users violate my rules--I've seen one attempt so far. More info on that here as well as in the other articles I linked to in previous comments. Also... until you reach 2,000 SP, you're welcome to use that tag for your own work :)

I've always hoped people did this. This is what I plan to do in the future. Excellent mentality IMO
