Best Crypto Portfolio Tracker // Blockfolio or Coin Stats?

in steemit •  7 years ago

I have both Blockfolio and Coin Stats on my phone, but have issues with both. The biggest problem is really tracking my investments. Since we have to purchase alt coins with either ETH or BTC, you can't ever really tell how your investment is doing in Dollars. It's hard to peg a purchase price since the value of ETH and BTC fluctuate so wildly everyday.

If I paid $.0012000 BTC yesterday for a coin, I have no idea how much I paid in today's Bitcoin price. This also massively effects resting orders in the market order book. How do you enter a limit order when the prices of both currencies are constantly in flux?

This is my current struggle with Crypto, trying to find a way to measure my investments to see my gains/losses. Anybody have a suggestion for the best way to submit orders and actually have a method for tracking changes?

Also any suggestions for offline wallets to use? Just getting into that portion of it now.

I've tried many, and keep going back to blockfolio. One app that was different and interesting was Delta which is worth a try, and Coinstats is great because you can tap to switch between favorite currency valuations on the fly. But at the end of the day I keep returning to Blockfolio, because when the charts are working properly, it's the best one out there still... sadly.

Thanks for that ! @briggsy make sure you check my review of the best softwares to track your crypto portfolio hopefully it could be of some use ! It all started because I wanted to get rid of block folio, and happily I found some nice alternatives

Great post! I hope you don't mind, but I mentioned it in my 5 undervalued posts of the day: https://steemit.com/minnowsunite/@acelad/5-currently-undervalued-usd5-steemit-posts-of-the-day-or-21st-december-2017

Check out CoinTracker — it calculates gains/losses per transaction and shows you your ROI vs. cost basis over time.

Hey @woodrow, I was hoping someone else more experienced would reply, but I just wanted to say that I have the same questions as you. I use Blockfolio but I completely agree with the flaws you highlighted.

Today I encountered a "problem" that I'm looking for help with. Coin Stats is only free until your portfolio is under $5K. Now the app is asking me to sign up, but it's $30/year (or $5/mo). That's less than 1% of my portfolio, but it's still $30. Maybe I'm overthinking this!

I love the interface, and there seem to be some plusses to paying for the app:

  1. Wallet watcher functionality (not quite sure what this is, so I'll look it up)
  2. Portfolio auto-sync from top exchanges (sounds good)
  3. Prioritized support (I haven't needed support yet)
  4. Get a notification when a coin is being pumped (that would be nice)
  5. No ads (I haven't noticed the ads up till now except when searching the news, and that HAS been annoying)

I could get around this fee two ways:

  1. Change some or all of my portfolio listings; for example, I could reduce them all by 90% (showing just 10% of what I have in each coin). Then I could just add a zero to see how much my portfolio is worth.
  2. Remove one or more of my holdings from the portfolio (I think that would confuse me)
    3.Use a different app

I'd appreciate any suggestions and thoughts!

Well worth the $30 IMO, until someone like Delta gets APIs up and running.

Why do you care for the fiat price? One quick advice. If you swich your mindset to making more btc or eth or any other great alt project then you will not have problem at all. Its about making more coins not $$$

I use a CoinStats now after accidentally deleting a coin from Delta, which completely destroyed my portfolio performance. I actually like CoinStats better since it has API connections with the exchanges, no more manual work. The only downside is it will NOT pull in your buy prices for your trades, BUT you can edit these by tapping on your holding and changing the last buy price. Not all that difficult to get completed in a short amount of time.

Another cool thing about CoinStats is the PUMP alert, which will send you a notification if a coin is currently being pumped... This could go any way really, trigger your FOMO, or alert you to sell, LOL.

As for charting, the only system I like to use is TradingView, works on both mobile and desktop (browser). Set up a free account and you can have your charts synched across all devices, paid service opens up the ability to create alerts, etc... TradingView has most of the major exchange's realtime charts.
