Saving Drafts On Steemit

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

Today I would like to talk about a specific feature that isn't (entirely) implemented into the Steemit editor yet.

The ability to save drafts.

I know that Steemit does actually save the progress on a post that you're working on. I even tested out how reliable it is. I closed my browser and re-opened it, and my progress was saved. I even cleared my cache and it was saved. I haven't tried clearing cookies, or restarting my computer, but I have a feeling it might still save even after that. This is awesome for people who realize that they don't know what to finish writing, or if something suddenly comes up and they have to leave their computer. In those situations, you don't have to worry about losing the hard work you've already put into a post. Well, you could also just save it to another word editor. Now, here is a good question:

What if you wan't to work on multiple posts that you don't want to submit until later?

This is when the current draft feature would be a problem. You could work on those posts in an external word processor, and save them to copy over to Steemit later. This could become troublesome and time consuming, and it also takes away from Steemit being an all-on-one package for writing and posting. Also, what if you're not at home, and you come up with some awesome story ideas? Maybe you even forgot your flash drive. What would you do then? Don't get me wrong. I really love the capabilities the Steemit editor already has, but I think the ability to save multiple drafts will only add to its awesomeness. (I'm not sure what the draft feature is like on mobile)

What do you think? Would you like to see the option to save multiple drafts incorporated into Steemit?

Just started Steemit today and this was the first thing I ran into. Can't believe there is no way to save drafts of more than one article.

I tend to write some in depth things and being able to pull it up and work on it later would be invaluable for me and help me to spend more time on steemit.

otherwise I am writing it somewhere and then having to copy, paste, verify it still looks good, edit, etc.

Would love to be able to save drafts.

I 100% agree. I use markdown pad to check some of my formatting, but dont want the pro version just to preview my picture selection on one article when i pause to write another.

Yeah, I completely understand the feels.
We can only benefit from this feature! :]

Yes, saving drafts would be cool, definitely

yess!! we need a draft feature for sure. Makes wordpress seem super complex just for being able to save a draft.

few days ago, i was writing something directly on steemit. Ive already noticed that there was no 'save drafts' option, so my first post was written on a word doc first before copy-pasting it on steemit for final posting. however the next one i was working on, i was just confident i would finish the post in one go...but then i got distracted and had to get off my computer. i came back and had to restart and was ready to just start over, but then when i opened the browser, my work was still there..so i continued typing until i almost finished it thinking that it will always be there so i didn't think of copying my work into a separate word doc. So here's the problem now and it's really making me upset because i lost all of it . i had to log back in to steemit and it's no longer showing the article i was about to finish!....is there any way to still recover that? Im a new user btw. :'( HELP

Yeah, that definitely is a very useful feature - that's why I actually like the busy.org interface:

It basically is the same underlying steem blockchain we love, so until the feature is added on steemtit.com you can use busy.org when you actually are busy and are quite sure you are not gonna finish the current post - the "busy" pun intended of course hehe ;)

P.S. I find out that busy supports draft thanks to this post, so thanks! :)

That's good one, but what if I disconnect my internet connection shutdown my system did post would be saved for future?

I see this was from 2 years ago and drafting is still not added to the platform. I'm trying really hard to like Steemit compared to other blogs (Medium) but it needs a lot of work to be as easy to use (Medium.) I'm still drafting in Medium or elsewhere and then copying and pasting to here. "The Markdown Styling Guide" might be something coders are used to (or maybe not?) but most writers of anything nontechnical are going to stay away until its as easy as any other word processor. I know I'm not a fan so far either. I say this as I just spent several hours over the phone trying to get my Dad started up using Medium. (The concept of running multiple tabs was something new to him just using Internet Explorer!) I'm not even going to tell him about Steemit as "the blockchain" is just way over his head and still, admittedly, over mine in many ways too. I have high hopes for Steemit and all things blocky though so I hope these issues are solved soon. Being first is great but being second and better is where success is often found, especially with tech. Someone is going to make this as easy to use as Medium soon enough. If its not Steemit then Steemit is going to become a dinosaur. If anyone knows of any other block-based blogger let me know! Thanks!
