Ulog 30- Fire Cider Recipe- A Tonic & A Remedy All In One

in steemitbloggers •  6 years ago  (edited)

It's that time of year again! Colds, allergies and the flu! How can you defend your immune system? Just have some Fire Cider on hand... helps with building immune system and assists in getting rid of whatever bug is ailing you.

FIRE CIDER RECIPE

In a pint jar combine the following:

  • 1 chopped onion
  • 4 cloves chopped garlic
  • 1-3 chopped jalapeno peppers (depending on their size and your desire)
  • 1 large piece of ginger - chopped
  • 1 large piece of turmeric- chopped
  • apple cider vinegar to cover all chopped vegetables and roots
  • 1-3 tablespoons of organic honey to add AFTER the month long fermentation process is complete.
  • you can also add some horseradish root/chopped to the recipe if you desire

Cover with a piece of wax paper then put the jar's lid on. You don't want to have the metal interact with the vinegar when shaking jar every day. Let sit for about 30 days, shaking jar every day. Then strain after month long process is complete. Add 1-3 tablespoons of honey to the strained liquid. Amount of honey added is a personal preference

Store in the refrigerator after straining is complete. This should keep the fire cider good for one year.

According to Stay Fit And Yung's website:

The wonderful thing about fire cider is considered a remedy and tonic at the same time. If you are feeling you are getting the cold or flu, it has been advised to take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day
As a tonic, you can take 1 tablespoon daily to boost your immune system and to prevent you from getting sick.

I made fire cider last Friday. I used horseradish and a tiny cayenne pepper in place of the jalapeno. I made a 1/2 gallon. The cayenne made pretty red flecks in it. Some day I'll have the time and energy to make posts with the hundreds of photos I've collected...

I hope you will (post all the images and topics you have)!

I only had the jalapenos left... All my cayenne are dehydrated from last year.

The little cayennes I had were given to me and I had dehydrated them. They were what I had so we used them.

Mmmmmm! I am making ours today!! Can't live without it!!

This is the first year we are using it... I can't wait to see the effects of it. I don't get a flu shot (I don't like needles and I am not fond of these vaccinations to begin with) and I rarely get sick.
Hubby gets a flu shot every year and he always gets sick at least twice. So this year I will be READY with this!

You will LOVE it! Totally works. I have never gotten the flu shot either. This stuff is like gold!

Plannimg in trying a batch This year

It's super easy to make and I'm hoping it will help fight any bug we get around here.

Any tips for a dog with a cold, need something to make them feel better :)

oh I wish... I never knew dogs could get colds.

Neither did i u till these 2 caught one. None of my other dogs ever caught a cold

Looks great! I’ve never tried it. I’ll give it a go soon. I have plenty of jalapeños in my garden, so this is a good use for them. Thank you

It's a great use! That's actually part of the reason I decided to make a small batch. I had about a half dozen jalapenos left from the garden.

Fire indeed!! I like more honey in mind than probably most people!

I probably will too... 1-3 tablespoons may not be enough for me with the jalapenos in there! lol

This looks like a great combo. I did a recipe last year. Pretty strong.

We've just gone into summer and sick. It's so frustrating in a family that never get sick. I've never made this fire cider because the seasonal bugs generally bypass us. But I'm saving this recipe for the future @goldendawne. Anything fermented is amazing!

howdy goldendawne! hey this looks like it's got some powerful ingredeients but how does it taste? Have you made it or is that a dumb question? lol.

What do you do with the spare scraps after you strained it? Can you just add water and keep fermenting? I think I will try this.
