Parents can either make life smooth or bumpy for their little children during change.....

Here we are, the 3 year-old and I looking through the new big and roomy home, huge compared to their old one. He was very excited about his new bedroom.

When we come to another empty room that I knew was planned for a guest room, I ask who will sleep here? Without missing a beat the 3 year-old said mummy and my brother.

"But, what about daddy? Where is he going to sleep?" was my quick reply.

"Daddy sleeps near my room!"

How precious was my thinking as I quietly admired the very good parenting that had been taking place during the short stay with the maternal grandparents.

Little children learn so quickly and in this situation both parents did extra well. They made sure that the 3 year-old kept sleeping all night during the few weeks with grandparents. His sleep was not disturbed when his little brother woke a couple of times during the night. He is the restless sleeper in the family. Mummy or daddy took turns sleeping in their boy's shared bedroom, so they could quickly tend to the 21 month old when needed.

Now all these two tired sleep deprived parents have to do is to create a new sleeping arrangement for their little boys.

Good parenting takes planning, calmness and consistency at all times regardless of the challenges along the way. The important goal is to create confident, secure, happy and emotionally sound children as opposed to kids who present as fearful, insecure and anxious. Putting in the leg work is so worth it and so necessary.
