Hacer Escala "aah-ser es-ca-la"

Phrase "General"
a. To stop over
- If we buy this flight, we'll have to stop over in Houston. ( Si compramos este vuelo, tendremos que hacer escala en Houston. )
- It's not a direct flight to Cape Town. The plane stops over in Amsterdam and Johannesburg.(No es un vuelo directo a Ciudad del Cabo. El avión hace escala en Ámsterdam y Johannesburgo. )
  b. To make a stop over
- It'll take us 12 hours to get to Santiago de Chile because we'll make a stopover in Bogota. ( Tardaremos 12 horas en llegar a Santiago de Chile porque hacemos escala en Bogotá. )
  c. To have a port of call "sea travel"
- On its way to Tenerife, the ship has a port of call in Valencia, and stops there long enough to visit the city.. ( Camino de Tenerife, el barco hace escala en Valencia, y se queda allí tiempo suficiente para visitar la ciudad. )
  d. To have a layover "waiting for a connection"
- I'll have a layover in Rome, where I'll take the connection to Catania. ( Hago escala en Roma, donde tengo el vuelo de conexión a Catania.)
  e. To stop
- We only stopped at a rest stop once, to have a coffee and use the bathroom. ( Solo hicimos escala en un área de servicio, para tomar un café e ir al baño. )
- It was now the 30th of October, and on the following day the Rangoon was due at Singapore. ( Pero no había tiempo que perder, porque era el 31 de octubre, y al día siguiente el Rangoon debía hacer escala en Singapore. )

Examples:

a two-hour stopover in Paris; (una escala de dos horas en París )
the flight stopped over in Brazil (el vuelo hizo escala en Brasil )
it made two stopovers for refuelling (hizo dos escalas para repostar )
the next port of call is Barcelona (la siguiente escala es Barcelona)
the ship put in at Cádiz (el buque hizo escala en Cádiz )
