My worst moment as a teacher

My quest of been a teacher can never be regretful. I am a 'proud teacher' who has taught for about ten(10) years now. The discouragement that comes with teaching is so enormous that it can be overwhelming if you are not prepared or ready for the job.

My worst moment as a teacher was when a student took permission from me to make use of the rest room and i refused him going.

The school management had warned earlier on that teachers should restrict the movement of students especially those that take excuses to go and ease themselves but goes to play in the toilet while lessons are going on. I was trying to follow the school management's instruction and when a student sought my permission to use the rest room, i refused him going. Neither did i know that he was really pressed because the student in question is fond of taking excuses to use the rest room too frequent.

It was the offensive odour that came from the area where the boy was sitting that took me to him to know what happened and i saw he has already 'messed himself up' poo in his trousers.

The whole class was smelling so badly and the students had to cover their nose from the horrible smell. I immediately took the student to the convenience and helped him to clean himself up. I provided a clean cloth for him to put on. The cleaners came to help but i refused and insisted i do it because the guy student messing himself up was my fault. I refused him going to use the toilet when he sought to do so.

I was so ashamed of myself for causing the student such embarrassment. Thereafter, other students started making mockery him. I immediately arrested the situation telling the students to stop mocking him that it was my fault. It could happen to anyone.

I learnt from that experience that i should never stop a student from using the convenience again when when they sought to do so.

The problem now is since the school doesn't want the students going to the toilet at will, especially when they are not pressed.

How do we know when the students are lying or saying the truth?

It was an experience and my worst moment as a teacher and i have made sure this never repeats itself again.

its sad for teachers though. you make professionals but such would never desire to be like you. anyway, it is not their fault, neither is it that they dont value us but just that the society has never treated us right.

@judesh, i'm really looking forward to the time the society will starts appreciating our efforts as teachers
