How Do I Deal With Stubborn Students Who Are Admitted To Join The Main Stream School

Hi friends, in recent times there have been an increasingly stubbornness on the part of Students who are admitted to join the main stream students in School. This is behavior is becoming rampant in Ghana Schools which is becoming uncontrollable for many Schools. The most dangerous aspect of it all is the influence of some of this stubbornness on the innocent students.

Most of these stubborn students who have attended Schools in many places, and because of their stubbornness they are unable to stay in one School. Sometimes they become School drop out, stay in the house for sometime and pursue little. When you come to Basic Schools in Ghana, the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education(FCUBE) have been introduced. Whereby every child who has reached School going age should not be denied of his or her eduction. So, at the basic level Head teachers do not have the right to dismiss students entirely from Schools, unless punishment is instituted for these stubborn students. Sometimes when you give theme punishment they will fail to do it and finally leave the School for another School.

Though many methods have been tried on some of these stubborn students which have failed, but for my opinion there could be a way out. Since it takes time for one to reform from his or her attitude that he is always used to. For instance when someone is addicted to strong drug, it becomes difficult to change him from that behaviour overnight, unless space is allowed for him to changed with time. May be the methods that we sometimes use is in a rush form, but with patience we can win their heart.

Counselling
Counselling can never be eliminated from our School system. That is why in every School we have the School Counselling Coordinator. But, at the Basic level the School Counselling does not function since we do have personnel who have really employed to take charge for that aspect. I think that is the main reason why the students stubbornness keep increasing every day. I believe every Basic School should have School Counselling Coordinator who look into the affairs of students stubbornness. And in the Basic School time table, time should be allocated for School counselling meetings, so that it becomes part of student learning content. This can go along way to reduce the trending of stubbornness on the part of most students which is eating deep into our Schools.

Strong Parent-Teacher Association
This association has a lot of benefit to the community and the Schools which build their relationship in terms of effective communication of what goes on in the Schools. At times when you stay with someone for quiet long time you become friends and the respect for each other begin to diminish gradually. Students do not fear their teachers any more; fear in the sense that the respect and the politeness as it used to be formally is no more, and even if it is there, only few people show up. So, having executives like Parent-Teachers association whose face are not familiar, can talk to these stubborn students and they will pay attention. When they meet for meetings they sometimes deliberate about the students attitudes and the way forward in solving them. Having strong PTA executives can also help solve this stubbornness on the part of students.

Engagement
This has to do with engaging the stubborn students in the activities that they like most which will always keep they active. Everybody likes attention, when you give him a task or work, he or she always stick to that task and work around it. Most of these stubborn students prefer sports activities such as playing football, volleyball, tennis ball, taken part in athletic and so many activities that build their psychomotor skills.
