I received this wonderful story from a friend of mine on my phone and thought I will tell you all about it as it does teach us about honesty.
There was a king once who had no son.
He knew when he died there would not be anyone to follow in his footsteps.
He decided to adopt a son, but they first had to pass a test.
He sent a lot of workers out to find the most interesting and good boys they could find.
In the end there were ten boys and he told them. I am going to give you each a corn seed to plant and after three weeks I want you to come back so that I could see how it grew.
The first boy planted his seed and cuddled it and really worked hard at it, as he wanted it to grow.
There was just no way that this seed would grow.
After three weeks he sent for them and they all had wonderful growing seeds accept the first boy.
He asked the first boy where his seed was, he held it out and said that he had tried everything but it would not grow.
What his friends suggested was that he must get another seed but his parents had taught him honesty is the best policy so he did not do it.
He apologised to the King when he told him that there was just no way could he get the seed to grow. He was sorry but that means he has to fall out.
The king stopped him and said.
I had all the seeds boiled before I gave them to you and I know they could not grow.
You are the only one who was honest and did not get another seed and for that reason I will adopt you and you will become king as you are a honest man.
In life nowadays we find so many people who just don’t care what they do to reach the top.
If it is unethical or not, people just want to reach the top come what may.
So this was a very clever king and he was also and honest man.
Teach your children that honesty and integrity is very important to be good people in life.
Thank you for reading my story and have a wonderful day from me here in the Wild Coast.
