Samuel anoints David:

 1 Samuel 16

Source

The Lord said to Samuel:

-How long are you going to stay crying for Saul, if I have already rejected him as king of Israel? Better fill your horn with oil, and get on your way. I am going to send you to Bethlehem, to the house of Jesse, because I have chosen one of his sons as king.

 - And how will I go? Samuel answered. If Saul gets to know, he'll kill me.
"Take a calf," said the Lord, "and tell them that you are going to offer the Lord a sacrifice.

Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and then I will explain to you what you must do, for you will anoint for my service whom I tell you.

Samuel did what the Lord commanded him. But when he arrived in Bethlehem, the elders of the town received him with much fear.

-Do you come in peace? -They Asked.

-Of course. I have come to offer the Lord a sacrifice. Purify yourselves and come with me to take part in it.
Then Samuel purified Jesse and his children, and invited them to the sacrifice.

When they arrived, Samuel noticed Eliab and thought, "Surely this is the anointed of the Lord." But the Lord said to Samuel:

-Do not be impressed by his appearance or by his height, because I have rejected him. People look at appearances, but I look at my heart.

Then Jesse called Abinadab to present him to Samuel, but Samuel said:

-This has not been chosen by the Lord.

Then he introduced her to Sama, and Samuel repeated:

- Neither has he chosen it.

Jesse introduced him to seven of his sons, but Samuel said to him:

-The Lord has not chosen any of them. Are these all your children?

"The youngest one is there," said Jesse, "but he's taking care of the flock.

"Send to look for him," Samuel insisted, "that we can not continue until he arrives.

Jesse sent for him, and they brought him to him. He was good looking, dark and of good presence. The Lord said to Samuel:

-This is; get up and anoint him.

Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed the young man in the presence of his brothers. Then the Spirit of the Lord came with power over David, and from that day he was with him. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

David at the service of Saúl

The Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and in his place the Lord sent an evil spirit to torment him.  His servants said to him:

-As you will realize, an evil spirit from God is tormenting him. So command His Majesty to these servants of his to look for someone who can play the harp. Thus, when the evil spirit attacks him from God, the musician will play, and His Majesty will feel better.

-Well, -said Saul-, get me a good musician and bring him.

One of the courtiers suggested:

-I know a boy who knows how to play the harp. He is brave, skillful warrior, knows how to express himself and is of good presence. In addition, the Lord is with him. His father is Jesse, the one in Bethlehem.

Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse to say to him, "Send to me your son David, the keeper of the flock."  Jesse took an ass, food, a wineskin, and a kid, and sent them to Saul through his son David. When David arrived, he put himself at the service of Saul, who came to cherish him and made him his squire. Then Saul sent this message to Jesse: "Let David remain at my service, for he has made a very good impression on me."

Whenever the spirit on God's part tormented Saul, David took his harp and played. The music soothed Saul and made him feel better, and the evil spirit turned away from him.

In this story we can notice how God chooses David, not by physical qualities or special gifts, but simply God knew that David's heart was clean and pure, and prepared from the moment before his anointing, the way to reach to be King of Israel, and put his spirit in him, giving strength, faith and making his heart more noble, God at all times was with David giving him his guidance and good advice, but this could be achieved because David could let the Spirit enter of god at the right time, so that he will work in and through him; On the other hand seeing it from another perspective Isai did not think that the youngest of his daughters and the most encillo would be the anointed one of God, and this makes us think that God does not see clothes, neither physical nor the best offerings, but that the least thought is who has the cleanest and purest heart and is worthy of the divine grace of God, is why humility and simplicity should be the basic qualities of every Christian, such as Jesus who being the son of a king, being the most powerful, loving and special that touched this earth, always was and remained as a humble, simple and honest man.

Very special is this story, the beginnings of David and that is why I share it, perhaps many know it, but maybe not others, that is why we must continue learning and sharing the good things, Greetings and blessings.
