Debate Method and Problem Solving Method Makes The Students Active and Motivated in Learning

In the post this times I will try to explain about the learning method that I have applied to my students. May be useful for teachers in Aceh and teachers in other countries.

Learning is an effort done sincerely in order to change the behavior and attitude of learners through teaching and learning activities. Because he is the key to success in reaching a bright future, preparing the nation's generation with a high knowledge of science. Which will ultimately be useful for nation, state, and religion. Learning has such a vital role to realize a generation with intellectual intelligence. One of the factors that influence student learning is the method, then applying an effective and efficient method is a must. With the hope of teaching and learning process will run menyenakngkan and not boring. The following are some effective learning methods, which we may be able to prepare.

Debate Method

This method is one of the learning method which is very important to improve students cognitive ability. Teaching materials are selected and organized into pro and con packages. Students are divided into several groups and each group consists of sixt people. Within his group, students (three people take pro positions and three others in counter positions) debate on the assigned topic. Reports of each group concerning both pro and con positions are given to teachers.
Furthermore the teacher can evaluate each student about the mastery of the material covering both positions and evaluate how effectively the students are involved in the debate procedure.
Basically, in order for all models to succeed as expected cooperative learning, each model should involve teaching materials that enable students to help and support each other as they learn the material and work together to complete the task. The social skills needed in collaborative efforts should be considered crucial in the successful completion of group tasks. These skills can be taught to the students and the role of the student can be determined to facilitate the group process. Such roles may vary by task, for example, the role of recorder (takulen), summarizer, material manager, or facilitator and teacher's role as a monitoring process of the learning process.

Problem Solving Method

This method is the use of methods in the learning activities by training students to face various problems whether it is personal or individual problems or group problems to be solved alone or together.
The learning orientation is investigation and discovery which is basically problem solving.
The advantages of problem solving method as follows:

1. Train students to design an invention.
2. Think and act creatively.
3. Solve realistic problems faced
4. Identify and conduct investigations.
5. Interpret and evaluate the results of observations.
6. Stimulate the progress of students thinking progress to solve the problems faced with precisely.
7. Can make school education more relevant to life, especially the world of work.
   The weakness of problem solving method as follows:
8. Some subjects are very difficult to apply this method. For example, the limited laboratory tools make it difficult for students to see and observe and finally be able to conclude the event or concept.
9. Requires a longer time allocation compared to other learning methods.

From the two methods above, the method of debate is superior because it is able to grow and encourage students to share in maintaining each argument. based on my experience of learning using the method of debate is more effective than other methods. However, there are certain lessons that are using other methods. because each method has advantages and disadvantages. but teachers are expected to be smart in choosing methods besides the mastery of teaching materials.

Conclusion

In the learning process is not always the teacher exposes the material. Precisely a siswalah that must be demanded critical thinking, creative and active. One of them is the debate and problem solving Method. Debate is an argument between two or more parties, either individually or in groups, in discussing and deciding on issues and differences. problem solving is a method of organizing learning that uses some appropriate subject areas.
