Dear steemian friend.
Play is very important for the healthy growth and development of children. Whilst playing, your child's cognitive and motor abilities are improved immeasurably. Also, it is through play that they first learn how to interact and find and practice their talents. So, give your child time to play, it is of more value than you realise.
Here are some ideas of games that you can play with your children, or encourage them to play on their own. These games develop all sorts of skills:
GAMES ESTABLISHED BY AGE
Games need to be age appropriate and meet a child’s capabilities. For example, climbing games are brilliant for babies, from the time they can crawl and onwards. At first you can let them climb and roll over pillows and as they get older, you can encourage them to climb jungle gyms and steps (with your supervision of course).
SOCIAL GAMES
Children from the age of 6 - 12 months start to socially interact with others. Interacting with the people around them is very important and a great learning curve. Play simple games with your child, like peek-a-boo, pull faces at them and tickle their tummies. Singing songs and dancing with them are also good for development.
OUTDOOR PLAY
From the age of 4 month, babies are developing their senses. There is no better place to stimulate these senses and develop them than the great outdoors. Let them crawl and run on the grass, smell flowers and chase leaves.
ENCOURAGE FRIENDSHIPS
Allowing your child to play alone outside with friends is very important and helps them build both relationships and independence.
ESTABLISH A PLAYFUL ENVIRONMENT
Provide space in your home where children can play. You do not need many toys, in fact, less is best. Instead allow them to use their imaginations with the toys they do have. Simple toys like wooden blocks, a doll or crayons and paper can keep a child busy and entertained.
Thank you for reading my thoughts on children and play, I hope you found this article both interesting and informative.

When playing, the children learn how to use and control higher action functions. The more we limit them in schools with the wrong requirements and longer schooling, the less opportunities there are for developing these skills according to age.
