TINOLANG MANOK WITH LOVE

in steemitgigs •  7 years ago

Good Evening Steemians. Its been a while since my last post. I was busy doing my school stuff and all. Don't worry, tonight I am going to share one thing I discover about myself.

Since before, I always ask myself what talent do I have. I refer to the talent that I would excel and could be proud of. Sadly, I don't still have the answer to that but, I discover something about myself just a couple of weeks ago. Well actually, I've been doing this stuff already but now I proved to myself that I really do have this skill.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am so proud to tell to everyone that I am a good cook. I am so happy seeing my family can't believe in their eyes that I am the one who cooked the "delicious" food I served them.

Just tonight, I prepare our dinner and cooked "Tinolang Manok" or also called as "Chicken soup". This is my first time to cook this kind of dish. Since, I am not sure about the ingredients so I just bought the ingredients I think was right.

1/4 cabbage
1/2 chicken
3 pcs. Finger pepper
Sliced Onion
Sliced Garlic
2 tbs. oil

Disclaimer: This is not really how it should be cooked, this is how I did mine and still works.

  1. Saute garlic and onion with 2 tbs of oil.
  2. When it turns brown, add the chicken together with the sliced finger pepper.
  3. Wait until its color starts to turn into "thick white" from its reddish color.
  4. Add water and wait until it boils.
  5. Add seasoning and spices.
  6. Wait until it boils.
  7. Put cabbage.
  8. Just wait 2-3 minutes and ready to serve.
  9. Serve with love.

This food is served as a viand here in the Philippines and best served with rice especially when the weather is cold.

Just a little historical information about this dish. This dish is one of the earliest mentions of the dish in Dr. Jose Rizal's first novel which is the Noli Me Tangere where Kapitan Tiago served it to Crisostomo Ibarra when he arrived from Europe. He was given the breast, to the dismay of the corrupt Spanish friar who is Padre Damaso, who got chicken neck, which is considered to be the least favored chicken part.

Enjoy eating. Thanks for reading.
