THAW AND AWE

the sun rises in the horizon once more

nocturnal birds seek shelter

diurnal animals get active seeking food

opaque snow begins to glisten

heavy snow packs fall off bent limbs

invisible little streams flow under the white crust

powdery snow becomes icy and wet

there's chilled water dripping from the pines

hibernating beasts begin to wake from their torpor

green grass begins to break through the thin, wet, icy layer

migrating birds are welcomed back from their long vacation

little streams coalesce into torrents

green begins to overcome white here and there

p1.jpg

brown freckles start showing on the face of the mountain

thin layers of winter cavitate into disarray
giving way to the humid growth of mushrooms

there's mud everywhere, but tiny yellow and white flowers
seem to grow from of it

giant clouds of mosquitoes spontaneously materialize out of obscurity
seeking warm blood to make eggs and have sex

winter yields like a dying old curmudgeon

a different, more tender way of life appears all around

both hunter and prey welcome the fulfillment of this promise

just don't forget that winter will come back
and it is holding a grudge against every living creature
that roams this wilderness

take a break, lizards and hares and bears and moose
grow fatter, for winter doesn't forget
and it will come next year to finish those
that mocked him by surviving

NOTES

This is an impressionistic poem about the end of winter and the beginning of spring as the fulfillment of a promise, and the menace of an even more bitter winter coming next year.

Simply beautiful - well done :)

:))) Thank you!!!

I'm flattered. English is my second language. I'm not a native English speaker. Yet you liked my poem. :) (happy)

tu hermosura y mi dicha a contemplar,
aquellas que aprendieron nuestros nombres...
ésas... ¡no volverán!
¡no volverán!
Volverán del amor en tus oídos
las palabras ardientes a sonar;
tu corazón de su profundo sueño
tal vez despertará.
Pero mudo y absorto y de rodillas,
como se adora a Dios ante su altar,
como yo te he querido..., desengáñate,
nadie así te amará.

Hermosa descripción de como el invierno cede paso a la bella primavera. Muy bien expresado y manejado, te felicito @sansoncarrasco . Exitos!

¡Gracias por apreciar y por tus buenos deseos!

Greetings brother poet!
Fulfilling the exercise of the literary commentary entrusted by the teacher @ d-pend, I proceed to write my impressions of the present poem, always with the intention of empathizing with the writing and the voice, looking for meanings, according to my humble vision of class companion.
"THAW AND AWE"
It is a poem structured in free verses.
I consider it an allegory that recreates the cycle of life. Particularly referred to the beauty implied by the seemingly crude, inhospitable.
The life that is reborn from the thaw of winter, giving way to the blossoming of spring, is the reflection of the permanent cause-consequence relationship in nature. Positive things always emerge from the seemingly negative. The weight of the burdens one's, can fall on the fertile soil of another and thrive.
The "promise" of the cycle is present, the eternal return that matches and levels the charges. Life does not stop at any station, it is a constant flow. The most crude and cruel (winter) can bring rebirth (spring)

the winter gives way like a moribund old curmudgeon

a different and more tender way of life appears

Both the hunter and the prey accept the fulfillment of this promise

Overcoming a cruel winter is not a guarantee of always achieving it,
that's why you should take forecasts at the following stations.
In the same way, in life, during good times, you have to build bases that sustain the nefarious times. Life is a cycle, everything comes and goes, and this relationship creates growth, understanding of the processes.
The title includes the word "awe" and I feel that this is associated with uncertainty, this ignorance of the future, the unpredictability of the future. However, there is something certain, according to the fiction within the poem, the impossibility of skipping the cycle, the struggle is continuous, it will never cease, there will always be battles, challenges ...

will arrive next year to end the
who made fun of him by surviving

It seems to me a well-done work. I applaud your creative art, my friend!

Thanks for this detailed analysis dear @zeleiracordero.
