- Getting rid of your vehicle and using public transportation is, in many places, not a viable option. The time factor alone is probably not worth it to most people.
- Lowering your housing costs is simply not an easy way to save. It means moving, possibly having a longer commute, etc.
- Not everyone wants to live with or can have a roommate, for example if you live with your partner or have a one bedroom.
- Doing it yourself involves upfront costs a lot of the time, which the article completely ignores. By having a home cleaning service and mowing your lawn, you'd have to invest in the equipment required to do the job.
- Not everyone wants to or can get a second job. Many people already work 50+ hour weeks, and with a family to take care of, getting a second job isn't great advice as it could result in higher childcare costs, less personal time, and brain drain.
Many of the steps aren't easy, at all - i.e. refinancing your mortgage and quitting smoking. The article is really lazy and not well-thought out, I can't believe it was published as "advice".
