  1. Getting rid of your vehicle and using public transportation is, in many places, not a viable option. The time factor alone is probably not worth it to most people.
  2. Lowering your housing costs is simply not an easy way to save. It means moving, possibly having a longer commute, etc.
  3. Not everyone wants to live with or can have a roommate, for example if you live with your partner or have a one bedroom.
  4. Doing it yourself involves upfront costs a lot of the time, which the article completely ignores. By having a home cleaning service and mowing your lawn, you'd have to invest in the equipment required to do the job.
  5. Not everyone wants to or can get a second job. Many people already work 50+ hour weeks, and with a family to take care of, getting a second job isn't great advice as it could result in higher childcare costs, less personal time, and brain drain.

Many of the steps aren't easy, at all - i.e. refinancing your mortgage and quitting smoking. The article is really lazy and not well-thought out, I can't believe it was published as "advice".
