Happy Sunday...... my rough face in church lol

Okay let me start by saying that a newbie should be considered as a person with reputation ranging from 25-49.9(which practically makes me one no doubt). But why am I writing this??

Over the past 2months I've been active on steemit I've been asked a lot of questions. Questions like ..

  • Peter you partake in a lot of contests why??
  • Peter does contest benefits a newbie ??

This and many more are questions I've always been thrown at. Not only that even those I've been helping to get on with Steemit when once they are on my page, they say "wow you partake in so many contests"..... So today I wanna let you know why you should partake in a contest.

First what is a contest??

A contest is kind of a competition with rules you have to follow which most times comes with a reward. Now following those rules doesn't necessarily guarantees you a win in any contest because apart from just rules you have to do something special to catch the eye of the organizer to win a contest.

Now many people have partaken in one form of a contest or another and most of the time they haven't won anything. I've had people that gave up after the second contest but the truth is the more you contest the more you master your art. Okay, let's go over to the good and the bad aspect of contests.

The bad aspects of contest(s)

Discouragement

This is one bad aspect of contests for any contest not just on steemit. For every contest you partake I don't know of you but I do research on them, one after the other. I check on previous winners and try to know why they won. But it's very saddening after all the time spent on research, time wasted to put it up and the rest you end up loosing.

Most times the "winners" don't win

Yes most times "winners" don't win and it's simple as that. The question here is who do you know?? Even in football you see when a smaller team plays against the bigger one no matter how they might be bullied in thier own stadium it's never a foul most times but just bruise a star player in the bigger team and most times you get a red!! Same here on steemit, if I know you while organizing a competition I'm likely to give it to you no matter what.

Lack of followers

As a newbie, you are just on steemit. Most of the times you are just trying to get acquainted with everything and then boom!! You see a competition you decide to try your luck and as every competition would have it with its rules, you don't have people to vote for you!! you fail not because you didn't do well but rather you don't have a fanbase or rather a supportive community.

Your reputation (steem, steem power)

Your reputation on steemit goes a long way to help you win contests too but as a newbie what possibly do you have?? a reputation of 25 and SP of 0.5/1.2!! Well one thing you might not know of competition is that once it's submitted just like any post it goes to the sort order(trending and not trending) so the people with the higher steem power gets to be seen most and also likely get Upvoted and continues pushing your post down down and down!!

These and many more are the bad aspects of joining a competition as a newbie but let's move over to the brighter side of it.

You get to win SBDs

Yeaaaah!!! No matter what happens, newbies still win contests no doubt. You could limit a SP but not talent. And thank God some contests gets reviewed personally by the host so why not??

You get more audience and followers

During a contest, you get to see people drop links under the main post and believe me most of the links gets opened to see what it holds. Luckily you get a good content embedded boom!! It could be the start of something good.... A new friend!! A new friend adds a new audience and a step closer to winning the next.

You could get nominated for projects

When joining a contest different people come up with different ideas especially one that needs brainstorming. Now most of these brainstorming contests needs volunteers and workers to take over a particular group or projects in which if you came up with a good idea you could as well be nominated as one of the major in that initiative.

You get to learn about different things

Contests like culture, food, travel amongst others are ones you get to learn alot. From the different cuisines to seeing diverse cultures and people to landforms/geographical views. This further adds value to you.

This and lots more are the good reason you should join a contest. But wait ask yourself first so you don't get dissapointed... Why am I joining this contest?? Am I relevant with this contest topic?? And lots more. The truth is for everyone you have a contest that best fits you. Find yours and take it serious. You will definitely get something good.

Below are some of the contests that I've been up to lately
