1.3 tons of cocaine seized in Caribbean as suspects abandon ship
In three separate operations, the Colombian Navy seized over 1.3 tons of cocaine from boats in the Caribbean Sea. The crew members of one vessel abandoned ship when they saw authorities approaching. The total value of the seized cocaine is estimated to be $45 million on the international illegal market. Two Dominican citizens were arrested in connection with one of the operations. The Colombian Navy released aerial footage of the seizures. Colombia produces about 60% of the world's cocaine, with coca production in the country increasing by 24% since 2021, according to a United Nations report.
