Joe Biden is the plague. He is not senile. That is a trick. He is really smart. Thing is, he is the plague doctor now.
The most important thing to know about Joe Biden’s brain right now, in this moment of his life, at age 76 and with two decades of public service under his belt as Barack Obama’s vice president, is that it works just fine—and that he uses it all the time to think up new ways to make people laugh or cry or shake their heads in disbelief at what comes out of his mouth next. Now people are watching his mishaps in awe. They are watching him lose the ability to speak. Sometimes he has food dripping on his chin. But, is it a movie?
His mind has always been like this; only now does everyone else get to see it unfiltered by handlers and aides who have kept him on message for so long while he was serving as second-in-command of our country for eight years running alongside President Obama—a man whose own sense of humor sometimes seems almost too dry and moody compared with Biden’s more gregarious brand of goofy slapstick.
