Steem Language(s)

Does Steemit need a common language? Or is English already Steem language? I noticed that people here use more and more English. And so do I, sometimes. English is cool, trendy, sexy, name it...the global language, isn't it? Wait a minute. There are still many people out there who can't master English and would prefer to communicate in their mother tongue.  There are also lots of articles which deal with the question why English doesn't work as a universal language. Language justice is only on point...

I really like the idea of Steemit as a place of diversity, with many different languages visible. Of course everyone has to make his own decision. I am curious to see in which direction steemit goes in future. And I will carry on with my Esperanto posts.

What do you marvellous steemians think about it?

Yesterday I read that only 25% of the world population is able to speak English and although I'm from Germany, where everyone can speak English I got the experience that many people don't want to use English in their free time. And because I want to reach those people and make them aware of Steemit I always write either in German alone or in both German and English side by side. :)

"According to Ethnologue, there are 335 million people who speak English as a first language and an additional 505 million people worldwide who speak it as a second language, as of 2014. The British Council claims that 25 percent of the world's population has some understanding of English. However, this statistic does not differentiate between fluent or native speakers and those who only understand a few simple phrases." Also zwei unterschiedliche Zahlen.

I love the idea of making the decision to adopt a global language. It was quite a surprise to find you posting in this language, and I do have to agree as a native Spanish speaker the meaning of what you were saying on that other post was instinctual. I've love to see more of the language!

Dankon amiko pro via komento. Sure one day the world leaders will again seriously talk about a universal language as they have done already before. And than the have to choose between a constructed language and a national language. As you can see here on Steemit people want to communicate in a common language and they do it at the moment by using English in spite of all its disadvantages. If Steemit becomes one day monolingual (English) than for me it is a clear sign, that Steemit is not really a global platform. It only mirrors current mainstream.
Bonan tagon kaj ĝis revido.

I do see a tendency to try to make things available globally including an ever increasing menu of languages. Technology helps. Imagine the fonts that are available, all the Indian languages, Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Greek and Roman. As with nature, man tries every combination: left to right, right to left, vertical, horizontal, top to bottom, bottom to top. Curious, ¿eh?

Thanks for your reply lyfo! Let's see what comes out in future of this language-Babel... :-) It is indeed very interesting.
Bonan Tagon!
