Steem Monsters - @rondras vs. @oli

In my last post I have outlaid my ideas for a pretty good rush deck. Oli has responded to this by presenting a good counter deck. Let's see who wins:

Round 1:

I am not quite sure on who attacks first but I assume Giant Roc attacks first as it is in first position and the other stats are equal to Lightning Dragon. This attacks first on Oli's Spineback Turtle, which will take a hit (if it hits) of 4, which reduces its armor to 2. Spineback Turtle's Armor is boosted by 1 by the way due to the Crustacean King. As Spineback Turtle has Thorns Giant Roc will also get hit - I am not quite sure if it is by 1 or 2. Let's assume 1 (as I want to win) which means that Giant Rocs Health is reduced to 7.

Next is Lightning Dragon which will also hit Spineback turtle with a 5 damage ranged attack. As Lightning Dragon has piercing it will destroy the remaining 2 armor and then reduce health of Spineback Turtle to 4. It might also stun the turtle but this is not relevant as it will not survive the next round.

Next is Oli's Mischievous Mermaid, which will hit a 5 damage magic attack on my Giant Roc, reducing its Health to 2.

Next is either my Fire Demon or Oli's Naga Warrior. Both have a speed of 4. Let's give Oli the first strike. However, as the Naga Warrior is in second position, it cannot do anything.

Next is then my Fire Demon performing a 5 damage ranged attack to Spineback Turtle, which is killed by the attack.

Next is then the Crustacean King, who will hit 2 damage on my Giant Roc, which will get killed by the attack. Ouch. This was not planned and it was close. But no need to complain - its dead.

Round 2

As a first attack Lightning Dragon will perform a 5 damage ranged attack to Oli's Naga Warrior, which is now in first row. This will reduce its health to 4. As I am losing anyway let's assume I am a little lucky and will perform a stun on Naga Warrior, which can thus not attack in this round.

Next is Oli's Mischievous Mermaid, which will hit my Fire Demon by 5 with its magic attack. Its health is reduced to 1.

As the Naga warrior is stunned the round is concluded by Oli's Crustacean king, which will hit 2 damage on my Fire Demon - which dies.

Round 3

The round starts with a group heal of Oli's Crustacean King, which will increase health of the Naga warrior by 1 to 5.

Unfortunately my Lightning Dragon is now in first row and cannot attack anymore. This means that I have to lose now as I cannot hit anymore except for my Thorns. But as Oli continues to have a monster with a magic attack which is not hit by my Thorns when it hits it is clear that I have to lose.

While there is a few junctions where things could have gone differently, it is pretty clear that Oli's deck will nearly always beat mine. But does that mean that my deck is bad - not at all. Knowing what your opponent will play makes it relatively easy to win - but this is of course not possible in real life gaming. Nonetheless, Oli's deck is really pretty strong I must admit - hopefully tomorow I will present a deck that beat's his however ;-)

All the best,
Tim

Wow, I'm gonna have to tag @littlescribe and @coruscate in on this post, as I think this one gives a great example of reporting on the matches, even though this is a fantasy, fantasy match, haha. If you think of #SteemMonsters as being akin to "Fantasy Football", then this post is a fantasy of a fantasy. 😂

I'm nowhere near up to the level of predicting how a match would play out in SM, so I really appreciate your knowledge and skill here @rondras. This is something that I aspire to, and once the Beta game is released, with the ability to substitute cards from a Team before the match begins, this skill will definitely mean the difference between winning and losing a battle or a tournament. I need to be able to "study the form" as my father-in-law used to do for the horsies. This is what you have already begun here. Nice work!

Thank you trisquelwhare. I think this short example shows how complicated it is to build a good deck - and this is what will make this game truly exciting I think.

It should be tomorrow instead of tommorow.
