Steem Monsters Official 1500 SBD Fantasy Writing Contest Announcement!

The Steem Monsters Official 1500 SBD Fantasy Writing Contest begins today!

This is the biggest writing contest on Steemit to date!

One of the most important aspects of this game is the fantasy lore....and we want to make sure it's awesome while also involving the Steemit community in its creation!

Last week we made the announcement looking for writers to help create the backstory for the Steem Monsters world and the teams have now been formed and finalized.

The Contest

The setting of the Steem Monsters world is called The Splinterlands.

The overall story arc is that the world was once whole, then became splintered, and the prophecy states that it will become whole again.

There are 6 Splinter groups based on their Elemental Color:
Red, Blue, Green, White, Black, and Gold (recently changed to purple).

Writing teams have been formed and will be competing for the winning prize of 250 SBD for each winning team!

Starting today, the teams officially have 1 week to complete the template and the Finalists selection will begin on Monday, July 2nd.

The Process

The Gold/Purple Splinter is canon and is the lead example of what each campaign should look like. You may want or need to make some adjustments to your story to fit with the Gold/Purple team.

You can view the Gold/Purple Team Template Here

Writing teams should also reference the Campaign Setting Process as well as the Steem Monsters Splinter Template.

Balance

Writing teams need to create balance when creating their template.
None of the splinter groups are going to be all powerful.
They each need to have their strengths and weaknesses.
Remember that this game isn't about good vs. evil.
Just as in life, we all have aspects within ourselves that are light and dark and we strive to balance them, the same needs to be represented within each Splinter group.

Contest Structure

There will be 2 Parts to this contest.

  • Part 1 will be the backstory for each Splinter
  • Part 2 will be the merging of these stories to create interaction between the splinter groups as well as overall cohesiveness

The scheduled layout of the contest is as follows:

  • The Official Contest for each Splinter group begins today, Monday June 25th
  • The Finalists selection begins on Monday, July 2nd
  • Part 2 of the contest begins near Monday, July 9nd - the merging of the finalist's stories
  • The backstory will be completed on Monday, July 16th

Judging

The teams will be judged by @aggroed, @yabapmatt, and @isaria (we may invite others as well)

Judging is based on completeness of the template and cohesion of the Splinter around central values and a culture that seems well thought out.

The Prize!

The Prize for Part 1 of this contest is 1500 SBD!
There are 6 Splinter groups (Red, Blue, Green, White, Black, and Gold/Purple)
The winning writing teams from each group will be awarded 250 SBD.

We will announce the Prize for Part 2 of this contest when it begins on Monday, July 9th. We're still determining the scope of work necessary to start merging independent groups into a collective timeline.

Thank You for your continued support!

All clear now...
Thanks very much for the detailed rules & timeline of this contest...

Best of luck!...☕❤

I'm not a good enough writer to participate, but I wish the entire Steem Monsters team and of course all contestants all the best! This is really a great effort and a beautiful experiment in organic multi-faceted development. My hat's off to you all! :-)

I wish I could have found out about this earlier I love fantasy setting and writing, and I have a preference for an Elemental feel in magic as well
sigh

If it is any help at all, from what I can see, the Green Team B edit of the template occurred after the commit on Tue, Jun 19, 2018 at 1:45 AM (when the document's length was 9644 chars) on HackMD, and it is still possible to download the original template without Irey eye's edits, by clicking the Menu dropdown and selecting Revision from the list, then scroll down to the revision dated Tue, Jun 19, 2018 1:45 AM.

As a n00b here, it is interesting for me to see the template as it was originally. I would have liked to contribute to this exercise myself, but by the time I even learned about this, the teams were already established. If it is of any help to anyone participating, might I recommend a collaborative tool I have used in the past for this type of thing, a mindmap called Coggle which I would probably have used myself when scoping out such a document.

Anyway, best of luck to the teams. I look forward to seeing the rest of the submissions!

@steemmonsters Thank you, my friend, your blog is such an awesome and please support me and upvote me if you like my comment

I failed to understand how to participate and what the contest is all about.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

We're still determining the scope of work necessary to start merging independant groups into a collective timeline.
It should be independent instead of independant.
