When FLAT LAY PHOTOGRAPHY goes wrong | achieving the real thing, FOODography, the art of eating after capturing, our version of FLP!

Mobile phones nowadays can do so many things in an instant. One of the greatest influence of mobile phones is photography, both for self gratification and for an important purpose. Just a quick trivia, photography is a combination of 2 Greek words

Phos - meaning LIGHT and Graphê - meaning DRAWING or WRITING, putting them together elucidates DRAWING WITH LIGHT. Makes sense, as photograph/image looking back in the days, were created by light falling through a light sensitive surface (e.g. films). The process is still the same, but the quality differs depending on the type of lens being used and photos are now being stored in a chip (memory card).

Modern world transformed so many processes in photography, from negative films to digital format, from monochromatic (normally black & and white) to colored photography and from printing to a photographic paper, now instantly being shared to various social media platforms. Above all these changes, I guess traditional ways are still impactful and memorable. Pros and cons will always be part of any developmental changes.

Landscape, architectural, fashion, candid and panoramic type of photography are to name a few amongst the different types of photography. It takes an eye for photography as they say to be able to know how, what and when to capture a subject and makes it look special by simply applying such manner or style innate in a person. Though the good thing for those having no eye for it is that, IT CAN BE LEARNED, through formal schooling and self-study.

One of the types of photography that I have been hooked up lately is what they call as FLAT LAY Photography. Originally, FLP is meant to tell a story, show different things with relation to one another and to showcase stuffs that you own. It’s a unique manner of showcasing subject/s. It can be taken anytime and anywhere. FLP as I personally referred it, is a messy shot with visible beauty. FLP can be done with certain number of stuffs to a complete mixed up of things and sometimes you may find that less is actually more.

I commonly apply FLP to food, thus me and friends now refer to FLAT LAY as FAT LAYING, like literally 😂 ... less is more they said in FLP, but with food, more is the best 😂. This is where FLP goes wrong hahaha. Are we actually trying to capture a good photo by ordering many foods or just simply pampering our tummies? Why not achieve a good photo and a good meal right? Hahaha

FLP is done by arranging your subject/s based on your partiality, flat on a surface and capturing them from top view. Perplexed when a good friend of mine introduced FLP to me and since then it became my favored type of photography, fun and easy! Try it once and for sure more will follow, till it becomes your habit already! 😉

For tips in FLP kindly visit the website below (more options for Flay Lay websites can be found also), as I find it so helpful.

Great shots. Thank you for the information. My wife actually introduced me to FLP. Since I mostly blog about food, I usually take closeup shots. So she recommended that I also do FLP, especially when the lighting is not that good.

Thank you... FLP limits also the number of photos you need to posts... full story in a single photo :)

@virgo27 nice photos! especially the latter where you involved those who were eating not just the food. Its as if it has more stories to tell.🤗

The story it ought to narrate is one of the very essence of FLP... Thanks for appreciating it... You can check out the website that I have shared for a quick guide on how you can beautifully capture images through FLP...

kakagutom naman yan post mo...:)
