I’ll have to say that your experience of democracy is different to mine.

I would rather live in a democratic society than an autocratic one.

And to be fair (and here I’m presupposing you’re American based on your quotes) the American example of democracy is not what I would consider a democracy. An oligarchy maybe.

In Australia, I feel our version actually works — that doesn’t mean it’s without flaws. But no system is perfect, and as critical I can be of my government, I do feel I have a say and can influence it, whether I choose to or not.

There are of course problems with the idea of the “tyranny of the majority”... but provided people avail themselves of information and think critically for themselves, they will make decisions that they feel serve them best.

The other aspect to democracy is compromise: and that to me would be a sign of a mature democratic society. At the moment, I would still say our democratic system is behaving more like a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum... but even the most belligerent of little shits can grow up to be wise.
