Massive Open Online Courses have roots beginning back to 2008, but came to greater prevalence when professors from Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and other top universities began funding MOOC platforms like Khan Academy, Udacity, and Coursera. Top universities are offering their coursework to the public, often times for free or at a reduced cost, and this trend has only continued to grow over time – why do you think this is?
