I don’t agree. I am from a working class bavkground and it has never held me back. I believe I was promoted in my former Job on merit and knew working class individuals at much higher ranks than me. Since working for myself I have landed roles based on my Experience and ability.
This may be an issue in a small number of cases but I do feel it’s used as an excuse too often.

Me too, but statistically we're just the exceptions that prove the rule! All other things being equal, it's simply easier to make the most of the opportunities out there if you're born richer!

But I feel a lot of that is due to richer people sending their kids to better schools etc and giving them more opportunities. This may sound unfair but I think it’s natural to want what’s best for your children regardless of any wider political beliefs. And I don’t see how you level the playing field! I still believe that others may have better opportunities but if you work hard you will succeed regardless of where you start from. Maybe I’m being nieve!

No not nieve, but by what you say you're basically agreeing with me! Hard work means you'll achieve more whatever your background, but at the end of the day, effort being equal, having had a private education is going to give you an advantage.
Lottery systems/ quotas are two ways of levelling the playing field. or there's always the apprentice - I've noticed Alan Sugar seems to have something of a soft spot for the working class candidates!

Well he does like to remind people he started out as a barrow boy! Got to admire what he built from nothing!

Most likely and so does the U.S.

The statistics certainly suggest so, and I agree that in many ways the U.S. mirrors the UK in terms of its class structure - where it differs is that there's much less class consciousness in the U.S.!

I think that every country probably has a class ceiling. They may be a little different in each country. They may be set at different heights or social expectations, but I think that every country has one.
