I watched a movie about MacDonalds - 'The Founder'

I am leaving Mikkeli this Friday, but I still have one final assignment on Consumerism. So to tackle this last project, I watched 'The Founder' with my teammates..

I might have heard of this movie somewhere before, but it's not the genre of show that I would generally pay to watch at the cinemas.

There are no spoilers here, because the movie is basically just a story of how Macdonalds started and expanded (not many plot twists in this respect). I will just be covering some interesting aspects of the show and Macdonalds, and comment about the actors that I knew starring in this movie.

The recurring theme within the movie was The American Dream and it was demonstrated quite clearly in many scenes in the show. This theme is strongly embedded within the Macdonalds Brand itself, being resonated by the main client base of Macdonalds - The Family, as well as the Franchisees, who wish to be part of the Macdonalds Journey. Essentially, Macdonalds represents America, and by biting into the burger, you can have a taste of it.

Nowadays we have Macdonalds almost everywhere. I feel like it's the kind of place where you are tired of because you see it everywhere, but at the same time, hungry for once you have a craving. I even make it a point to check out a Macdonalds in every country that I visit, because there is always something slightly different that I want to try. It's not the best place to eat, but I always feel satisfied after eating, that is Macdonalds to me.

I did not know much of the cast before watching. Michael Keaton is the main actor portraying Ray Kroc. I didn't realise he had acted as Batman before.

Then the other 2 actors that I knew in the show, Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec, and Ryan from The Office. Those aren't their real names, but that's how it has come to be remembered by me. It's hard to dissociate them from their iconic roles, so I end up laughing at some parts of this movie when I see them.

Nick Offerman plays Dick Macdonald in The Founder

BJ Novak plays Harry Sonneborn in The Founder

I was quite drawn into this movie's plot in general mainly because Michael Keaton acted quite well. It's a dramatic retelling of a true story, so there's nothing much I can really question about the factual plot. It's just that there are some things that I felt frustrated about in his actions, but noting that this is strictly Business, and it happened in the past, it might have just been the 'accepted way'. Overall, the movie, in my opinion, placed Ray Kroc in a slightly neutral-negative light as a person. In the 'romantic' parts of the movie, I felt it was rather awkward in some scenes as well.

This movie isn't too bad. If you haven't watched it before, I think you can queue this up on your playlist during your next flight.

One of my friends said that the movie was very good and recommended that I should watch it. But like you, this isn't my genre of shows that I like to watch, so I didn't bother. Maybe I will watch it on my flight back to SG.

yea i always watch comedy mainly! if not for the school project I might not have watched this. But familiar actor faces made it sort of 'comedy' for me anyway! Let me know what you think after watching if you do catch it! I didnt really like the actions of the main actor.

Ok.

Michael Keaton is awesome. You should look up some of his 80's movies. He ruled the box office for awhile. I really liked this movie. I think it speaks to the American dream and also its excesses. Plus my first job in high school was at a McDonalds lol

I actually have to write something in my essay about American Dream so this is quite tough for me. I believe the term stays the same but the motivations behind it has changed alot of the years. I am probably gonna botch this essay though with my rambling.
I actually havent worked at Macs before, had thr thought of it but when I looked at the pay and the workload I decided not to
