Hello, my eSTEEMed inhabitants of the #steem planet:
To start a new year in #steemit, in which I hope the blackouts, the Internet failures and so many problems in #venezuela will cease, that is, that there will be a positive change in the political map, here I am again--
On this occasion I intend to celebrate such an important date for my evolution in Steemit by sharing with you a short article on the importance of maintaining adequate food even when economic conditions may become very difficult.
Try not to stop eating breakfast even if, according to the data, you find yourself in a situation of poverty...
Being in a situation of extreme poverty, a situation in which 61% of the Venezuelan population find themselves, according to data handled by the Coalition of Organizations for the Right to Health and Life (Codevida) source, is one of the most important reasons given by many of those who prefer to wait until very late to make the first meal of the day, thinking that this helps to minimize the effects of such difficult living conditions. Some people say that since they have little money, they prefer to skip breakfast. However, as nutritionists and other food specialists point out, this is a very wrong way of thinking.
As is well known, the socio-economic situation in Venezuela is so hard that it is difficult to guarantee a balanced and quality diet for oneself and for the family nucleus. To give the reader an idea, a bag of breakfast cereal costs almost the equivalent of a third of the monthly minimum wage, that is, it costs about 20,000 sovereign bolivars, while the basic wage reaches 40,000 sovereign bolivars. If you include a food voucher of 25,000 BsS, the minimum monthly income is 65,000 Bs.S. Believe it or not: That's about 11.2 DOLLARS A MONTH, that's 0.37 DOLLARS A DAILY. This implies that Venezuelan salaried citizens have the challenge of surviving on something like 2,200 Bs.S. a day, in a country where ONE EGG COSTS, for today, 767 Bs.S, that is 0.13 DOLLARS. It should be kept in mind that the World Bank has defined extreme poverty as the condition of people living on less than $1.90 a day. source
However, the difficulties are to overcome them and for that there are no better tools than creativity and timely and truthful information. In view of the challenges we face, it is necessary to search for reliable data with a scientific basis that will allow us to invent alternatives that, while being low-cost, will really help us to feed ourselves better. Industrially processed products are not always the best choice in terms of nutritional capacity and quality-price ratio.
Solving a nutritious, tasty... and low-cost breakfast
I took up the challenge, and this is only one of many options, so I have prepared a delicious and very nutritious breakfast with a couple of arepas made with corn ground at home, which means they are totally whole; a couple of stews made with spinach and chard, respectively; a bit of banana dessert; a lettuce leaf and a piece of ricotta. Ideally, instead of cheese you could eat a piece of tofu, but in these lands it is very difficult to get it. In any case, the totally vegetarian version, that is, without the animal protein of the cheese, is perfectly valid. Although the cost of preparation can exceed the amount of 0.37 dollars, if we separate the whole of the cooking in several portions, either to share with others or to eat several days, I think the challenge was overcome....
As you can see on my face, everything was very tasty and I assure you that I spent very little money. The most important thing is that this way I am better prepared to face a day that can be full of great challenges.
