Robin Hoods Beginnings!

Welcome all my precious metals family to D Wings World where information and adventure await! Today we are looking at what I thino is a really cool first issue in a three coin.set!! It is the Duke Leopold V coin in honor of the founding of the Vienna Mint!
This new Anniversary three-coin series from the Austrian Mint beautifully illustrates the founding of the Vienna Mint and helps recreate the fascinating story.

According to Apmex:
In 1191, two crusaders, Duke Leopold V of Austria and King Richard ‘The Lionheart’ of England, got into an argument during the capture of the city of Acre. In December 1192, on his way back home from the Holy Land, Richard was taken prisoner by Leopold on the outskirts of Vienna. The huge ransom in silver, which Leopold managed to extort from the English people in return for Richard’s release, led to the origin of the legend of Robin Hood. Leopold used the silver to found both the stronghold of Wiener Neustadt and the original Mint in Vienna.

Coin Highlights:

Mintage of 100,000 coins
Contains 1 oz of fine Silver.
Obverse: Features a crusader on horseback, part of Leopold's crusade along with the year, weight and face value.

The story of this series and its historical ties to the Robin Hood legend are what drew me to it! The design is very clean and really excited me. I also was thrilled to learn that Apmex is looking at their use of bags to ship after posting about this coin on Instagram. What do you think? Are you getting any of these? Please remember to upvote, resteem, and reply!! Thanks D Wing!

Literally a Kings ransom. I know of robin Hood but didn’t about the ransom.
It makes a very nice silver coin.

@stephen-somers thats it indeed! That ransom was the whole reason insane taxes were placed on the people. Thanks for your support!!

It is a nice design and I too enjoy reading about the reasons these coins get made and what they commemorate. Great buy!

@knowledge-seeker the history is often what makes coins so awesome to me. That connection to another time and place really adds to the intrinsic value of the metals. Thanks for your support!
